If you live in the coastal areas, there’s a certainly premium. Poway, Scripps Ranch a toss-up. Further inland than that, forget it. I certainly wouldn’t crowd a freeway for Temecula. I’m sure there are just as many dentally challenged there as the rest of the country.

Texas prop tax vs. CA prop tax + income tax is a wash if you have a job. Although I think TX should adopt a prop 13 / state income tax combo like CA. IMHO, high property taxes hurt the elderly most. TX will never even debate it. Too radical.

Many of the U-Hauls leaving CA are going to Texas. Houston and Dallas are typical big cities. Salaries are the same if not higher than here. SD salaries suck. San Antonio is a nice place to raise a family, but pretty boring otherwise. Austin is an oasis in the middle of it all. It has always been the most expensive RE market there. Lot of anti-growth forces. But a LOT going on. Very comparable to San Diego for quality of life.

Oregon is great but they hate Californians. Always have. Texas is starting to.

One of the few people I know who is really loaded drives a crappy car and lives in a modest house. He put it best when he said that he finds enjoyment in just knowing he CAN buy the bling if he wanted to. Otherwise, it’s just bling.

Here’s a true story: I pulled out of the gas station yesterday and was at the light behind a new H2 pulling two new jet skis. I decided to take the “follow a hummer home” test and follow it, but not any further than my cross street. Now I’m sure this guy has his house paid off and is just looking to move up to a new gated community, but sure as sh*t the house he pulled into had a for sale sign in the yard.

Daily Show did a bit the other night about a wind farm off the coast of Nantucket that has the rich people up in arms. It was hilarious. YouTube had to take the video down but this link has a bit of it showing Teddy Kennedy intending to speak for the people of Massachusetts on the matter.

for some of the work you’ve done around here. Take a break from the SR/MM monitor for a while, snapshot it right now and come back in a few months and take another snapshot. Like the ex-san diegan that decided to quit the board and come back in a year and see where things are at. But don’t quit the board. I get too much info from you.
