Participant
I can kind of sympathize with those that believed their realtors, loan brokers, family and friends when they said real estate was such a good investment, it would only go up, if you didn’t buy now you’d be priced out forever and a stated income loan was okay because you’d probably be making more money in a couple of years anyway…
I almost fell for it in 2007 when I almost bought a house in Mira Mesa that was way overpriced and I couldn’t really afford. But something in my gut told me it wasn’t a good decision and I didn’t do it.
But if I had bought, I probably wouldn’t be crying about it blaming my family, friends, realtor, etc. Because it was a decision that I would have made and I alone would have been responsible for.
That’s life. You use what information you have to make decisions and sometimes you make bad ones. Nobody said it was going to be easy. Foreclosure is not the worst thing in the world that can happen to you.
your situtation and mine was the same.. but I too wouldn’t be blaming anyone but myself. My wife and I have discussed what would we would have done, because the condo we were bidding on went down 100k already. It is a mixture of pride and common sense that changes what we would do. Sometimes my wife says she wouldn’t short sell or walk away from what would have been “our home”. Other times she says that she would think about it..
A lot of people are having to make some crappy decisions.

ParticipantI wouldn’t say it was all greed, when we first moved here in the middle of the boom my wife and I just wanted to have a place to call our own. Everyone acted like the crazy loans were the way it is done out here and no one can afford a regular loan. So we almost got involved in the same chaos, after bidding on a condo and the sellers being jackasses and wanting crazy prices I did some research and found piggington. If the bid went through I would probably be in the same boat as many, even though my ambitions were never about greed.
While I am actively looking, and any type of moratorium really pisses me off, I can’t help but feel bad for some of the people this is happening to. We have always been fed from parents, media, etc that housing is the best way to establish yourself. So many tried to do that even if it took a crap loan.
Then there were others that took multiple loans and sh1t like that, and I believe they need to be thrown out on their asses without remorse. Yet you have to feel for some of the people this is happening to.
