ParticipantI moved from WI, had a nice place, etc. etc. Had a patio set we hardly used because either it was too hot or there were too many bugs.
I go surfing on a regular basis, I have my windows open all the time. I ride my bike year round, my wife jogs year round. We absolutely love it here.
My drive sucks, but I have my windows open, I’m ok with it. We will hopefully move closer to work when we buy anyway.
I could have a great house back home, but my weekends go from riding bikes, laying in the sand, surfing, bodyboarding etc. etc. to trimming hedges, shoveling, and paying my AC bill.
When I have kids though, I might not be so happy. Who knows. The access to different cultures out here cannot be matched, I would hate to rob my children of that. I personally feel robbed. It should not be 30 and just discovering sushi and thai food ๐

ParticipantI would consider the ownership premium to be a little bit more than the cost of renting. I’d be willing to pay up to 500 more a month than my rent to own. I guess it would depend on the circumstances

ParticipantThat’s how I ended up on Pigginton, I put an offer in the “lower” portion of the asking price. Was denied, walked away. They came back to me 10k lower than my offer 3 months later. I said no forever, it really pissed me off.
That place ended up selling for another 15k under the price they came back at me with. They are going for even cheaper now.

Participantha ha, I was going to post again about the land comment but saw I posted about it already ๐
An example of a 4S buyer, a coworker of mine just bought a house there. He is getting married. He has a condo he bought in 99, his fiance has a house, the money from the sales of both of those places are going towards it. Otherwise they wouldn’t be able to buy

ParticipantI looked at an oddly shaped condo this weekend for grins in PB. It’s the last one in the facility, 2 bedrooms 2.5 baths with a den and a garage. The master has a tiny closet and the room is tiny also. The shape of the living room is odd and doesn’t really allow a great setup without a wall mounted tv. (which the realtor raved about the setup). It also has a patio on the roof w/gas fireplace and views of the ocean (and all of garnetts craziness). The windows face the apartment building next door (you can literally say hi to them every morning). When I mentioned the price for what you get (the garage isn’t attached) she mentioned that the porch has gutters and cutouts for water to be routed, which she said is not very common, and of course the patio upstairs.
She also mentioned that the “experts” were saying that this is a buyers market and next year there will be an “uptick” in sales again and prices.
“uptick” I bit my tongue, my wife and I cordially left, aftewards she laughed and was happy we were renting.
