ParticipantI remember that plot when it was a commercial palm grower or was it tomatoes. Excellant location. Just far enough inland past the coastal fog. $700k appears the low end of the development. Good as the higher $ properties will keep values up. Hoa will probably be high however. But, 700 for new in cbad is good.
Not sure why you care about stock price unless you are thinking of solvency of the builder.
El Camino Real is a busy road. Not sure if that will be a noise problem. Lot’s of shopping nearby.
Watch paying for the view as there is that proposed 85/15 ( Nordstrom mall )project next to the Hwy 5. Power plant was supposed to demolish the smokestack at some point but I don’t know any more details.
Interesting the state allows new developments that require water when the rest of us have to cut back to give them the supply. Grr. ( personal bias not limited to this project π )

ParticipantRemember Polio? I’m sure you will agree that our society is much better off with it.
Same with my garden. If I don’t pluck the weeds, soon they will dominate the plot.
Sure there will always be crazy, but let’s not turn our back on it.

ParticipantBuy this one for you. Your kid will have *much* different ideas on her own car π Unless she is just as much as a motorhead like dad then you’ll be fighting her for it! har.

Participantspd: You point out the vicious circle and the obvious skew in all this climate business. I’m all in for nukes and well as hydro ( not to mention the water banking here in Cali, spelled that way for east coasters :)). This is at odds with current environmental politics that won’t allow expansion in these areas and its very too bad.
brian: Lifestyle changes are bigger than your personal light bill. Business or better yet manufacturing use enormous amounts of electricity. Because of higher restrictions on coal the cost of electricity is more thereby increasing cost of products you buy. ie. its harder to see its direct cost but your wallet sees in everyday purchases. Food cost is one example. Wonder why we don’t produce steel any more?
phaster: And one final wrench to throw into these climate talks – Antarctica. Why is the ice pack expanding there? Science can’t answer that either. If I were to bet, I’d look at the oceans. And the arctic wind patterns that don’t readily seem to draw the air down from the population centers where the most C02 is generated. And let’s not forget C02 is measured in trace amounts which again makes it tricky to specifically hang the reason of increasing ice thickness.
Well maybe. There is no plant life down there to convert it to oxygen so there you go, yup we definitely have to fix that pesky C02. Proceed with the Paris Talks. π

ParticipantGot me on the Aral Sea. Had to look that up on a map. Seems like the demise of this body of water was a direct result of the Soviet’s diverting two of the main rivers feeding this lake.
http://www.columbia.edu/~tmt2120/introduction.htmAnd you are right about the super majority of the population not having the education to not be gullible to Hollywood showmanship. This however plays right into conniving politicians with an ulterior agenda.
Ok. I’m with ya WRT there is climate change. I’m even ok with spending money to study it. I’m even ok that there is a disagreement as to the solutions.
But why should America bear the brunt of the cost and lifestyle limitation of this C02 business? China and India emit tons with wonton disregard and don’t forget to throw in pollution in those countries. Beijing anyone?
We are together there is no easy solution. Lots of work will continue to be done and its all good. Personally I just don’t like our economy and lifestyle taking the hit for, let’s just call it very difficult to prove conclusively, natural changes of the Earth. Skis ready for El Nino by the way.
Merry Christmas to everyone.

ParticipantPublish or peril in the academic research world. Now if you are researching a topic that can be monetized in the corporate world, there is private $ flowing into your lab.
Climate change will not produce a breakthrough drug to sell for example, so who pays for this research. Right, US Govt. Same for many many other hard sciences with limited use of the learned data. Mating habits of butterflies, for example.
No problem here with funding science with the intent of better understanding our world. But when the data is tweaked to sell a political agenda, I call time out. And we have no disagreement regarding the crooked politicians as you discussed.
Another thing regarding the mass die off you mentioned. Oh, and by the way, I don’t have AppleTV so I can’t view the show, so I’ll just wing it.
First, there has been many mass die offs over the life of Earth attributed to various natural events. Volcanos indeed released C02 but please understand that this is a trace gas making up less then ~.03% of our air and cannot single handily be responsible for a die off. More probably other gasses and debris caused a cloud which blocked sunlight thereby choking out significant life on Earth.
And the rate of die off doesn’t mention we have significantly more animals now then then. Be interesting to see the hard numbers there.
The big push is hang our current change on human activities. I won’t go toe to toe with ya as we have a difference but I would think any discussion about global warming etc really needs to have more research on the effect our oceans have and for that matter, the sun. So let’s just fund more research. I’m ok with that. You?

ParticipantThis may be the beginning of an interesting trend. Either supply landlord with addn’l insured or purchase a rider from landlord.
Balboa asked if there was any incentive to name them addn’l insured, I think not. Plus there is a cost (~100 ish) to add someone/company as an addn’l insured on your policy.
As Xbox mentioned owner is offloading some of the cost to you. At the same time, having access to a much larger pool of money for liability.
Wonder if owner/lawyer is a plaintiff attny? Again, another interesting angle.
Can’t see this as a trend for all properties, just higher end I’m guessing.

ParticipantHey Mix: Do you have a plane? Whatcha got??
I think not based on your posts. If you do, how about Anza??? Az is a great option of you rent. Lots of options.
Put the $$ in the plane not the house if you are single π
Georgia has some nice houses on airstrips.

ParticipantI remember a time when civil service was a career path not for large salary but for great benefits and job security. Private industry had the higher wages and lesser benefit packages. Today, seems this trend has reversed.
For example, if the fire service was a private industry career, I’d bet salaries would be in line with other blue collar type jobs. ie. $ 50k And you would still have tons of folks lining up to apply.

ParticipantI see. Yah, too much for a one time assessment.
Paypal has a recurring billing service.I would simply add the fee to the assessment. And make the late fee 2x more than the service fee π
Just like if I pay my property tax with a credit card there is a service fee.
Hobie
ParticipantHow about billing a one time fee each January covering all the months?
