Participantjfiq — Excellent post. Nice question. Really well done. Not partisan. Given the gravity of the issue, just want to say ‘Thanks’. Really well done.
My two cents, pipelines. Pipelines. Regional power. Combined with the stated issues in the disputed territories. Missile agreement with Poland should notch up the hostilities further.
Really challenging situation.

ParticipantThis is a very serious issue, major pipelines to Europe from Georgia.
Politics need to stop at the water’s edge.
Praying to God my children don’t grow up in an insane world.

ParticipantI agree with dukehorn. And Henry Rollins. Never relent.
jfiq, you seem to be rather caught up on the notion that Obama isn’t ‘American’ enough. What are your thoughts regarding McCain’s eligibility for the Presidency?

“A Hint of New Life to a McCain Birth Issue”
By ADAM LIPTAK
New York Times, July 11, 2008In the most detailed examination yet of Senator John McCain’s eligibility to be president, a law professor at the University of Arizona has concluded that neither Mr. McCain’s birth in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone nor the fact that his parents were American citizens is enough to satisfy the constitutional requirement that the president must be a “natural-born citizen.”
The analysis, by Prof. Gabriel J. Chin, focused on a 1937 law that has been largely overlooked in the debate over Mr. McCain’s eligibility to be president. The law conferred citizenship on children of American parents born in the Canal Zone after 1904, and it made John McCain a citizen just before his first birthday. But the law came too late, Professor Chin argued, to make Mr. McCain a natural-born citizen.

Constitution is explicit. You must be 35 years of age and a natural born citizen. Frankly, I’m okay with either becoming President. I’m interested in hearing whether you discuss the issue fairly or shill for McCain…
