Participant[quote=lizzers]One thing that I don’t think anyone has touched on yet is how your child feels. I think either choice – a CV public school or a private school will provide a good academic environment, but if your child is unhappy it won’t matter.
I went to all of them in San Diego–public, private, and parochial. I had great experiences at some, not so great experiences at others. There was a year when I was miserable…when my parents saw this they pulled me out and I chose where I wanted to go. As a result, I excelled academically and my overall happiness improved greatly.
Another important point is extracurricular activities..it is no longer about who has the highest SAT score. Universities are looking for well rounded individuals.

I never wanted to go to my all girl High school at the time- what sane teenager would?
The work was harder, they called your home everytime you missed school so no one could get away with ditching and there were NO boys.
Now I’m happy that my parents made me go. I got an infinately better education and because it was just expected that everyone went to college after high school, everyone did. In fact, in most of the Catholic high schools that I’ve ever checked out future college attendance is over 98%.fredo4

What makes you think prices will drop? I know prices have been up and down a lot lately b/c of the wild stock market. Do you think the stock market is still too unstable to buy at this point? Wasn’t gold up to ~$1,000 a little while ago? So if it’s down to like $870 now that’s pretty good isn’t it?fredo4

ParticipantI’m involved in an organization called St. Vincent de Paul that handles situations like this.
I forwarded her post to the St. V in Lake Elsinore and will call tomorrow to check up.
What we do when get a call is go to the house and speak to them in person. If they are unable to work because of illness we check medical records, if they can’t pay an electric bill we ask to see that.
Unfortunately about half of the calls that we get are scammers, so we try to weed them out. Most of the legitimate cases are found by friends and neighbors who call in for the people. The people who are really in need are usually the last ones to call in because they don’t want to take charity.fredo4

ParticipantCan someone please tell me what is so great about Carmel Valley? I don’t get it. It’s not on the coast, it’s almost all tract houses and it’s relatively expensive. I can’t believe that it would be the schools drawing buyers. It’s way cheaper to buy a house elsewhere and put your kids in private schools. I know there are a lot of people on this blog interested in this area. What’s the appeal?
