You’re still stuck on “banks”. We are talking about the EU and IMF. Should those fail? European central banks?
“Teach” the populations how incompetent they are? Yeah, people will be glad to have their wealth taken from them. Have you been following the demonstrations in Greece? The failure of the government in Portugal? That would be nothing.

ParticipantCogno wrote “Greece, Please Do The Right Thing: Default Now”
The big banks were not the primary movers, if you’re talking about last year’s bailout. It was the EU, IMF, and European parliaments who engineered the bailout. The reason was because Greece’s ability to borrow and sustain itself was doubtful.
Please give us your analysis of the effect on Greece of a complete default.

ParticipantI own a home in Mexico in the interior. Davelj’s comments match my impression of Baja and certainly many resort area condo projects throughout. Regarding the lack of MLS of course this is true. That is why you need a notario you can personally trust. Getting a fideicomiso is not a problem, I would worry about the annual fees going up AFTER the purchase. I didn’t need one for my house so no first hand experience. In Mexico these days, including in Baja near TJ, you must make a decision about your tolerance for the state of public safety. Ever since Calderon took office in 2006 this has been a factor.

ParticipantWe own a house in Estado de Mexico and go frequently. Our Spanish is 100%. Baja is a small part of the republic. However, we don’t have our heads in the sand either. There are places to avoid right now, such as Juarez. Currently the public safety situation is deteriorating as Felipe Calderon presses his war on the drug cartels. BTW, someone said only Mexicans can own land. This is only true in the restricted zone and was placed into the xenophobic 1917 constitution.
