Participant
I think you would be even more discouraged by the results if state legislators had to take the test.
Good one. It is not an easy test.
The tone of the article is that public doesn’t know anything about the budget, so how can you ask them to vote on it! While that may be true, looking at the mess legislature has made so far, I don’t think public can really make it any worse!

Anyway, anyone want to take a swipe on how much longer RIMM has? I’d say 2-3 years, or until Android starts getting serious about business class users…
RIMM is an interesting case. They still have a core fan base – emerging markets, corporates and a subset of users who hate touchscreen phones.
On the other hand they are quietly trying to make their platform more compatible with android.

My prediction is that they will survive but morph into an android compatible system (perhaps with a deal with google) specializing in corporate users and keyboard lovers.
Or else someone will take them over (MSFT, I would have said NOK too but now it looks like RIMM maybe able to buy NOK instead)
Interestingly,
RIMM Mcap ~ 34.72B
NOK Mcap ~ 34.72Benron_by_the_sea

Which brings us to Nokia! sadly, this is one company where the management is hell bent on taking the worst possible decision every single time. It is like they want to deliberately lose every single battle!
I can understand the appeal of this partership for MSFT, but what does NOK get in return? There is not even any exclusivity as far as I can see, for takling all this risk! So if they take all this risk on WP7 (instead of Android) and if they make WP7 successful, then HTC, MOT, samsung etc. will just move in and eat their lunch π What a loser management! (Thank god, I don’t own any NOK!!! )
No wonder their employees are pissed and stock is down 15% today!

ParticipantOh my head is spinning.
[1] They discovered a $10MM “error” in their budget – so the budget deficit is now $56.7MM
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/feb/08/ooops-mistake-means-higher-sd-deficit/(what kind of frigging show they are running there that they make $10MM error?)
[2] City council offloads Petco park debt to redevelopment agency – Will save $11.3MM from 2014
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/feb/08/san-diego-council-offloads-petco-park-debt/
(Jerry S. very sad that this will probably interfere with his grand plan to bring us a Charger’s Stadium come hell of high water! But alas, Jerry B. is threatening to take away his redevelopment slush fund!)
[3] City is hell bent on spending redevlopment money by hook or crook. (We will waste it here but won’t give a cent to Jerry Brown!) So they are going to spend $29MM on beautifying the Ebarcadero
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/feb/08/ccdc-act-296-million-embarcadero/
(Hey city council, can you please find a loophole to spend it on fixing Mira Mesa Blvd. and calling it redevelopment somehow please?)
[4] Apparently the next item is to transfer covention center debt to CCDC and save another $13MM to general fund.
[5] Mayor and city council keeps on talking about building libraries, stadium, city hall, convention center etc. etc. even though they can’t fix our roads.
We live in a truly messed up system here!
