ParticipantI agree with you. I feel that even if we reduce pay and benefits by 20% we should have no problem attracting new recruits. After all firefighting is a glamour job for many. But of course, it is almost impossible to reduce pay and benefits because of the Democrats pandering to the public employee unions. One thing you can start doing is buy on Amazon to avoid paying tax. I rather pay shipping cost than paying tax to California. I feel that they have taken too much out of my pay check already. 90% of my purchases are on Amazon right now.
[quote=teaboy]Does anyone out there think that privitization may not be the answer, but also that firefighters are still significantly overpaid and should have their overall compensation reduced?

ParticipantI took Asian American history in college so I know a lot about the Asians.
Not all Asians are the same.
Indians: The majority of the Indians in the US are a highly selected group of the upper caste people who came here to study and most end up with Phd and Master degrees. Hence the high income. If you are an Indian of lower castes as most Indians are, you never dream of coming here.
Vietnamese: Many of the Vietnamese here are boat people. It is a mixed of Professionals, fishermen, and veterans of the South Vietnamese government. Most don’t speak English and came here broke. So the Vietnamese have lower income.
Taiwanese/Hongkongers are similar to the Indians. The only difference is that Hongkong and Taiwan have populations that are relatively wealthy and educated.
Cambodians/Laotians: Poorest of the Asians. Low education. Many of them came here directly from the rural areas.

ParticipantI wonder why 80% of Craigslist responders never bother to show up when they tell you they will.
