The problem is in addition to the innate bad-smell of the uric acid, bacteria grow on the stuff and release ammonia. Enzyme cleaners have the best history of attacking this stuff.
A relative ended up having to rip out the subfloor because it was more effective than any cleaning method — but in their case the subfloors were saturated.
