Participant

Considering China’s current track record I wouldnt be too worried about China taking over everything like they seem to be planning. Their food sucks, their drugs suck, their toys suck, their high tech sucks or is just a ripoff that would be sued so fast it wouldnt be funny. China is good at making lots of cheap stuff that is disposable. Itll break in a year, but who cares it was dirt cheap and served its purpose. This will not bode will for a large purchase like a car, not matter how ambishious their buisness men are.
What you wrote was also true of Japan and Japanese products in the 1950s and 1960s. We know how that turned out in the end…
True, but people are now talking about the Chinese as they did about the Japanese in the 80’s; and look how that turned out in the end. (Turning Japanesia…)
In all reality they are not gonna take over the world like some seem to think, and they are not gonna remain the backwater of manufacturing and industry they were up until the 1990’s. They will most likly build a world wide car company or two, just like we have Ford and GM, Germany has BMW, porsche and VW, Italy has its luxery models, India is growing tata, Japan has Toyota and Honda, Korea has kia……..
They will grow or buy their way up to compete with the big dogs of the industry and crowd out the little guys (like chrysler) alittle more. Every country has its growth spurt onto the world stage, and every one eventually sucumbs to the internal pressures unique to that country before it takes over everything. Japan did it in the 70’s and 80’s. We did it before that. China is now, then India is next in my opnion.

a) I started reading cause I was getting crazy flak to buy, but it didnt make any financial sense. Took a while to learn what was really going on. Moved to SD and was a lurker in 2006. Poster in 2007. Does that give me chops yet or do I get my special pig decal only after a few more years?
b) You will please notice I also am happy for Bubblesitter. I wrote it directly into the first post. I am happy that they found a house they are happy with. I did not question flu’s congrats, and rather joined him. I questioned esmiths comment of correct timing without knowledge of more underlying facts. I questioned Waiting hawks assetation of good job because it denoted a sense of correct action to me when I first read it, but perhaps I miss read it as more than a simple gesture of happyness.
(Please notice I didnt ASK for any more facts, Bubblesitter has no reason nor cause to post any of those. Perhaps all of you know this individual outside of the blogosphere and know more than I do. That is why I prefeced it with not being an expert, I dont know bubblesitter’s situtation.)But I find it interesting that we RAIL on people who bought houses “during the bubble” at outragious prices (or maybe not so outragious in the beginning) and then happily congratulate one of our long time posters without knowing anything more than “I negotiated for a long time and it is an ok deal cause I dont wanna wait anymore.” Especially since South Carlsbad SFH’s is an area that doesnt seem to have depreciated back to trend, making it bubble pricing as far as I can tell. Please excuse my misunderstanding of why it is ok for pigg’s to pay bubble prices in 2009 but it isnt ok for other people to have done it in 2004.

ParticipantNavydoc,
Please do post what you get in Maryland. It is a nice state, and it would be good to see a comparison to how the other 49 states live.

Physicians aren’t the only ones complicit in the quest to stop death at all costs, the family at the bedside and ever present lawyer-threat are drivers pushing the physician to do just a little more. The article citing costs spent in the last several months of life is quite telling. However, it is in retrospect as you don’t know it is someone’s last few months of life until they actually die. It’s hard to cut off the last month of spending when you don’t know when the last month of life is.
Doc’s are most certainly not the only ones involved here. I would go so far as to say that in my experience they are usually the least responsible for the issue at hand. It is their job to dispense medical care and advice on that care. They (usually) are unsurpassed at this point in history compared to any other when it comes to dispensing medical care. I feel that the breakdown comes when they have to dispense advice about that care. In my ,self admitted little experience( I have 4 friends in med school or docs and a few family members who have died), the problem is that patients are looking for a cure and doctors are prescribing a treatment. We as a society need to realize the difference and learn how to judge the value of a short term treatment versus its cost.
