drunkle..
My main concern was with what kinds of people climb out of the woodwork based on ads on CL…And whether or not people have had success selling things off CL
Tried to sell a car once (about 15 years ago) out of the Auto Trader and met some scary characters.
Didn’t mean to sound so lame…

We’re not leaving Scripps. We knew we wanted to leave this particular house in Wine Country – rather near those two homes on Riesling you mentioned in your Scripps Monitor post – because it has a pool and it’s costing us a couple hundred extra a month to run the pump all day and top off the H2O. Also being an older home w/ the original windows it’s costly to keep it cool in summer as the windows are only single paned and the home faces east/west so we get sun on all the windows all day.
On the good side we love the neighbors – great family people w/ kids with whom we hope to remain friends after we move. Also, the owner/prop. mgr. re-did the home w/ new carpets, hardwood, appliances, counters, ducting, etc. so all in all it’s a nice home and ‘hood, we’re just living on one income and the extra few hundred a mo. in pool and A/C costs can be put to better use in our budget.
We’d looked at moving to Del Mar area to cut down on husband’s commute but found mostly run down shacks in our price range so re-focused on Scripps/Poway/RB/Sabre Springs/4S and lucked out on a newer place in Scripps w/ no pool.

doublewideParticipantI don’t know whether to laugh or cry…As you dig up more and more of this stuff (I read your site almost daily) I just can’t wrap my brain around all the money. Some day I’d love to know if these REALTORS® you track also had family members who are/were BROKERS and made additional gazillions of dollars. We’ve run into families like that in 4S (we love to hit Open Houses every now and then just for kicks) where Dad is a Broker who will get you a loan, while Daughter is the REALTOR® and other Daughter is an Escrow Officer and Son-In-Law will do the appraisal…Everyone has their hand in the cookie jar.

doublewideParticipantBugs..Vrundy…
Bugs, you are so right about the grocery store comment. A couple of years ago I’d park my little Honda between giant Hummers and lifted Fords in Temecula grocery stores to then walk inside and be faced with women with 0% body fat and Triple D chests…man was I out of my element. If we ever leave Scripps I’m going to start house shopping by checking out the local grocery store !
Vrundy, that’s cool about your MIL. My daughter and I still go to that park and walk our dogs many mornings and everyone is so nice. There seems to be a lanugage barrier but we talk with smiles while the little kids pet the dogs. We also like to just watch the Tai-Chi, it’s so calm and graceful…but I’ve always wondered, is it rude to watch??? Grandma always said don’t stare, but it’s like watching a ballet, how can you not look?

doublewideParticipantMy observations were based only on driving Camino del Sur between the 56 and San Deguito so I’m sure back up in the actual developments there is no trash on the streets.
Maybe that area along Cam. del Sur is maintained by the city and we all know their financial situation – it looks as if they planted grass at some point (there are even multiple sprinkler heads poking up everywhere) and just let it go to seed.
It’s just such a stark contrast once you pass over Carmel Valley Road between one area and the other….

doublewideParticipantIt’s all about the parks…
At least that’s our way of finding our perfect area.
If you yahoo map an area you’re interested in you can easily pick out all the parks and go visit them.
We really get a feel for the individual neighborhoods by the parks and the people that frequent them.
For example, we thought we really wanted Poway Unified at one point but were able to eliminate most of Poway County as our type of ‘hood based on the graffiti and used condoms laying around the park parking lots. There is one really nice neighborhood though called “The Palisades”.
Also, there is a park in Sabre Springs where every moringing it’s filled with Chinese people doing Tai-Chi (however you spell that) and playing with what must be their grandkids. I think the area must be filled with multi-generational Chinese families all of whom we’ve always found very nice towards us (we’re as white as they come) and our dogs. We could never find a home there that worked for us (we’re renters and the pickings were always very slim in Sabre Springs).
So since you have time before you need to buy I say make a few trips a week with your toddler to parks in areas you like. You’ll really get a feel for the people who live in the immediate area.
Good luck,

Good luck,
DoublewidedoublewideParticipantI can actually answer this one…It’s not often that happens!
92127 – 4S Ranch and parts of Rancho Bernardo
92128 – Rancho Bernardo, Sabre Springs and Carmel Mt. Ranch
92064 – PowayBe careful in 92129 – Rancho Penasquitos – Mercy Road is a dividing line that splits Rancho Penasquitos (AKA PQ). There are condos, homes and apartments on both sides of Mercy that are 92129 but go to San Diego Unified.
Also, there is one development in Scripps Ranch 92131(Stonebridge) that goes to Poway Unified (PUSD).
Just as a CYA move I’d go to PUSD’s web site http://www.powayusd.com/admin/bss/planning/addresslookup.asp
and type in an address to verify it’s with in PUSD.Someone let me know if I forgot something.
Hope this helps.Doublewide
