ParticipantIt’s still Escondido on the ocean, just some new neighborhoods towards the East that are nicer than the old ‘hoods. One thing if you’ve been gone 8 years is that the traffic is a lot worse now (if you haven’t noticed already). I moved to North Carlsbad in 99′ and the drive was a breeze, but by 2005 it had become a slow slog down the coast. If you work up there, great, you can get a lot more for your money, but if you work around the 52, you’re going to be seeing a lot of bumpers in the morning and the evening.
I agree with SD Realtor that O’side has a ways to fall, it’s not the most desirable area (schools, gangs, about 3-4 Walmarts) and it’s hella’ far up there.Doofrat

ParticipantThe only catch I see for the location is that you’re right next to the train tracks, and the tracks are exposed at ground level there. I’d ask neighbors about it, it may or may not be an issue at that specific location.
I lived in Cardiff a little farther from the tracks and could hear the freight train come through at 3am, especially when the horn blew.Doofrat
