ParticipantThe bank is required to file a currency transaction report for any amount over $10,000 or any amount just below this amount. They also have the discretion to file this for any amount.
What they do with this after the filing is beyond me, but I doubt it is very difficult for the guys in the black helicopters to compare:
1. Bob SS# 123-45-6789’s bank account with a couple of $120,000 checks from his brother and sister
2. Bob SS# 123-45-6789’s tax returns listing his job as Starbuck’s Barista and an income last year of $35,000
3. Bob SS# 123-45-6789 estimated tax payments for the year showing $0Hmmm where did Bob get this money?
Can’t think of a simpler audit.

ParticipantI gotta say that I would have done the same thing. When I first heard about this, I couldn’t believe it, but after seeing it and reading about it, things make more sense. It’s one of those don’t hate the player, hate the game things.
The bank has:
1. Some vandalized houses that probably are to the point of just having the framing, plumbing, electrical, some of the roofing, and slab left.
2. A huge financial liability in that they would have to finish all those roads, landscaping, lighting, probably one of those small dog parks, etc.
3. No buyers in Victorville to buy the houses after throwing in huge amounts of money and time into this 90% complete 90% more to go development. There’s no market for these and this bank knows it.
4. Victorville fining them for code violationsMay 1, 2009 at 10:02 AM in reply to: 20 new homes to be bulldozed in Temecula (signaling a bottom:) #391223Doofrat
