When I see A/C advertised, I’d assume central air. I have a portable unit and it is NOT a substitute for central air. It’s like selling you an airline ticket from L.A. to New York, then giving you a bus ticket for the same route.

Had an ant issue a few years back, just got about 7 of those Terro liquid baits on the advice of a co-worker and placed them on the counters for a few days. The ants swarmed them which was kinda’ gross, but a few days later, they were all dead and I haven’t had an issue since.ParticipantThe carpet is going to be at least 90% of the problem, just replace it, then get somebody in for duct cleaning and/or replacement.
When we moved into our rental, the previous owners had 2 or 3 large dogs. Even after cleaning the place and steam cleaning the carpet, it smelled like dog. Had the carpet replaced and it smelled like, well, nothing.
The ducts probably won’t hold any dog smell or dog allergen since there are filters (presumably) in place before the return air hits the ducts, but they may have dust, mites, mold, etc.
