the commission never issued a report.
Huh?
http://www.fiscalcommission.gov/
This is the commissions website. You can see the report linked on the front page. It was issued and ignored.
I linked to the report in my previous post. It came from the commission, issued on Dec 1, 2010. It came after the co-chairs recommendation, which came in November 2010.
I’ll admit, I read more of the co-chairs recommendations, and that’s what I was thinking of when I said in the previous post that I thought the recommendations were good, albeit painful.
But a quick scan of the full commissions recommendations show it’s similar to the co-chairs list.
Maybe I was just being too technical. Besides the issuance of the report coming after the commission expired, the report failed to get sufficient votes from commission members to approve the report. Which is why it disappeared so quickly, no formal recommendation was made to congress.
I have just finished up to about page 20 and everything so far made sense on both sides of the aisle. Figures it got buried because when does government do anything that makes sense. It is sad because I could see politicians picking it apart on each side of the aisle because of party lines or special interest commitments, all while not getting anything done as the debt increases. Our politics will kill us in this country as neither side is going to give.
I don’t understand the vote regarding the commission members. They complied the report together but not all of them voted on it? The specifically word it in regards to being bi-partisan yet it was partisan in approval?

Overnight? The debate went on for many months. The Republicans never made any concrete proposals. Never even tried to participate in the debate (unless you count calls of “socialism” and “death panels”)But you forgot to mention that it was also “rammed down our throats.” They completely ignored the Constitution and instead passed a law by getting a majority vote in the House, and the Senate, and then had it signed by the President. (Who ever came up with this totalitarian process anyway?)
But we say that it happened “overnight.” Why? Because the talk-radio masters tell us that’s how it happened.
Without question, you obey.
I never questioned the constitutional process as a law can’t be official unless it goes through this process. You seem to think that there was actually time to debate the bill that NO ONE read and didn’t know what was in it but had to vote on it in order to “pass the bill so we know what is in the bill”. I wonder if you will be so accepting when the tables are turned. So much for promises of bills be put on the internet for all the public to read for x amount of days before they are signed into law.

Participant
heh heh…So folks finally figured out our beloved political parties are both effectively useless when it comes to financial prudence?
…and yet folks still think one party is better than another…Lol….Enjoy the major timesink….
I said it before and I’ll say it again. The only good government is one in which there is so much political squabbling that neither party can effectively waste money on their agenda’s pork…. I’m happy with the infighting going on right now in our government, thank you very much…
Now where is my brokerage buy and sell button….
Exactly. People complain about which form of government is better based on party when only a limited form of government (I don’t care which party) is the only effective one…because it is ineffective.Bottom line is we are competing against giants like China and India who pay people to physically break rebar out of concrete for recycling because it is cheaper than actually buying new rebar. I’m not suggesting we we pay our workers dirt but we have to give our producers incentive to produce here in the US or our unemployment will continue to rise. We need to get government out of the way so the money can go to the workers…not the government or unions. Necessity is the mother of innovation..not big government.

So any effective legislation has to planned in secret and then sprung on the public without any discussion or debate? That’s what “politics is all about?”
Where do you come up with this nonsense?
Don’t answer, I already know.
LOL, this pretty much sounds like how the Dems ran things the last two years. Wasn’t this exactly how the healthcare legislation was passed? Overnight, in back door rooms, no time to read the 2500+ page bill, forced on the people.
