As someone in the thread said, teaching in schools isn’t just teaching. A LOT of it involves disciplining (if the teacher cares) rowdy kids, and dealing with parents when their kids aren’t doing well etc etc. And honestly if a kid doesn’t have it to be academically excellent, he doesn’t have it. There will always be the bottom half in a class. But some parents don’t get it and they want it fixed, often blaming the teachers. And you can imagine how some parents get worked up over kids education, as this isn’t a bad service they are getting at a restaurant. It’s their children who are obviously precious to them. That’s just one, huge aspect of being a teacher.

I dare anyone who says teachers are paid too much to try keeping 20 – 30 kids in order AND teach. Do you know why parents of little kids and teenagers go bonkers?

I say entry level teachers aren’t paid enough as it is.

And these products, aka students, that the teachers produce will be around for good 50 – 70 years. How long will your gadget (be it cell phone, software, etc) be around? Some are replaced like in 2 years?

Superintendent Michelle Lee of DC has made many enemies with her attempted reform but I’m all for $100,000 salary for QUALIFIED teachers, especially if they do produce results.

Let’s tax fund managers and Goldmind Sachs of their excess profit to fund it. I’m sure CEO of Goldmine Sachs won’t mind as giving good education to kids is ‘doing God’s work’.
