Participant
I would look forward to the day when we could be like say Norway,
Yea we have one of the highest standards of living, but we are far too small to help out in your little conflict or send any serious money, but hey good luck with that…
In a way I can’t wait until we can’t afford foreign Oil, then we will finally get off that stuff or find someway to make our own suitute (and yes it can be done).
Saudi Arabia is already preparing for the day we don’t need them, they have always known (the last ten years at least) that it would at most take us five years to be independent energy wise if we were pressured. It would not be fun at first but we could do it.
I don’t know if I should feel happy (that we can get off oil) or scared (not being center of the world).

Participant
Well one good thing maybe we can stop being the worlds policemen and biggest money supply to needy nations etc…
Then we can sit back and make fun of whom ever takes our place as they go around the world getting scre##wed.
If we are not center of the world, value of $$$ would plummett. And that means we can’t buy oil with $$$. Value of $$$ is artificially high because we are the center of the world (I hope). Are we ready to pay more $$$ for less oil?
And we can’t expect China/Brazil to act on the world stage with restraint (if they are center of the world), like USA has been (believe it or not).
It may seem like we are getting screwed being world’s policemen, but I think we screw others in return and actually end up positive. IMHO

That’s assuming there will be no new, real, , natural 18-year-olds. Those coming back from retirement will be beaten down mercilessly by the competition…
imho.
