Participant
Oh, there are many applicants that go down there thinking it’s going to be an easy way to make money. Then the widdle away at the so many applicants b/c they can’t pass the written or physical aspects of this “easy” job.
When did you go down to apply, dave, and how did you do? Did they call you back?
How many Piggs have gone down and applied? I’m tempted to start a poll to see how many have even attempted to apply at these competitive easy and high paying jobs.
First of all, no one is saying these jobs are “easy,” so I’m not sure why you’re using quotes. But for whatever reason, lots of folks want these jobs. It takes all kinds, I suppose.
I personally know a police officer that’s been on the force for over 20 years who said, and I paraphrase, “There are so many QUALIFIED (my emphasis) folks for each position that it’s not easy to make hiring decisions.” Straight from the horse’s mouth. That’s my data point.
No, I’ve never applied for one of those positions. I have no interest in them and, frankly, the pay is insufficient for me from an opportunity cost standpoint. But clearly lots of folks feel differently.
Have YOU applied for one of these jobs? Are YOU working one of these jobs? Enquiring minds and all…

Lastly, I have to say that I’m amazed at how little the Piggs here have respect for jobs that are pretty thankless that no one really wants to do but just want to complain about how much they make.
“No one really wants to do”? If they’re such thankless and horrible jobs then why, even in good economic times, are there so many applicants for each position? These are among the most competitive jobs out there. Enquiring minds want to know…
And this applies to police officers, teachers, etc. There are multiples of qualified folks willing to do these jobs (for less compensation) for every opening.
I take it, dave, that you’ve done a few ride-alongs w/some cops and sat in a classroom trying to teach kids w/ADD who are mouthing off to you every day. Yeah. It’s a cakewalk.
I never said nor implied that it was a cakewalk, so your comment is a non sequitor. The fact remains that for every firefigher/police officer/teacher position there are many capable, qualified candidates that apply. And I’m quite certain that many of these candidates would be willing to do the job (and capably) for less than the stated pay. So why the huge all-in comp packages (including benefits) for so many of these folks? Because taxpayers and their representatives have been asleep at the switch for too long. That’s in the process of changing.

Participant
Let’s look at it another way.
As Binyamin Appelbaum of the NY Times said, the banks have from the beginning insisted on the letter of the law — they can continue to pay huge bonuses because employment contracts are binding.
Now, homeowners are saying that there is a legal process for foreclosing on collateral. The banks should follow the procedures and produce the documents to prove that they have the right to the collateral.
Is that too much to ask?
Personally, I don’t think it’s too much to ask. The servicers should execute their duties within the confines of the law. And, at last, that’s what they’re going to be compelled to do. But… let’s not pretend that it’s “their” (the foreclosed “homeowner’s”) home and that foreclosure is some injustice that they have some right to avoid. That’s ridiculous. The victimhood is a bit much. Avoiding foreclosure is really simple: pay your mortgage. I wonder how many of these folks are paying their mortgage payment into escrow while all of these details are worked out? Yeah… that’s what I thought.
