Obama can’t keep all his promises if the Republican keep on blocking his initiatives
The Democrats decided early on that they were going to do what they were going to do with or without Republican support. The Dems have a majority in both houses of congress even without a single Republican vote. If they want something to pass they can pass it without any support from the Republicans.
The Republicans didn’t block anything. The Democrats couldn’t even get their own party on board with the HC bill–that was what was holding them up. The only bipartisan support for the HC bill was the NO vote.
But they did get it done though. The bill passed. And now the reconciliation bill is going to pass in order to fix the corruption of Blanche Lincoln and Ben Nelson. All’s well that ends well. It wasn’t easy, but they passed the biggest piece of legislation in 40 years.

danielwisParticipantTheir first plank is rather peculiar, IMO. It would result in paying increased income taxes. That surprises me that a tea bagger would advocate for that. I agree that it would help keep a damper on housing prices though, especially the mansions that wealthier folks use to shield income tax.

danielwisParticipantI have worked in health care for 26 years. In those 26 years, I have not met a single person that has rejected socialized medicine for those over age 65. Not one. Not a single one has ever made a political statement by rejecting medicare. Not a one. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
I’ve seen plenty that choose dual coverage (medicare and private insurance). But guess which card is ALWAYS presented first? That’s right, the medicare card.
Its extremely popular. Even the old tea baggers love it. They can talk about the repeal of medicare taxes all they want. But you will NEVER see them reject it out of higher conscious, moral beliefs, patriotic duty, etc., etc, etc. Its all a bunch of hot wind, and nothing more.
