ParticipantTo answer your specific question: high balances (like your $10K) do hurt. Not a lot, and it depends on other factors, but they do. There is nothing in your credit report that tells FICO that you are paying in full every month. So, as far as FICO is concerned, your pattern of charging $10K every month and paying it in full looks no different than having charged $10K long time ago and now struggling with a minimum payment every month. Again, it’s no big deal (maybe 10-20 FICO points or so), but, if those points make a difference to you, you’d be better off keeping lower balances and using your debit cards more often.

ParticipantThey should have come up with a better name for it. I am not particularly angry at anybody or anything. Not sure what renting has to do with being angry. “Responsible Renter” would sound better, IMHO.

ParticipantRaptor,
Plenty of rentals in CV. Both on Craigslist and on MLS. Check out http://www.carmelvalleyteam.com for cool, color-coded MLS rentals (but don’t forget Craigslist as well, as many are only found there).
A piece of advice: don’t rent a crappy place. Your best bet is to rent a nice house that was intended for sale but failed to sell. You know, the “never before rented” type. Also, asking prices are all over the map, so pay attention to that and don’t be afraid to negotiate. And check on your landlord to make sure that he/she isn’t likely to get foreclosed on.

ParticipantWell, JWM, I’m sorry if I stepped out of line. It seems that there is a new sheriff in town. I went through all this with Powayseller some time back, and I apologized then just as I’m doing now.
You see, some things are worth debating and some things are not. When it becomes pretty obvious that doing so would be a waste of time, there’s no point in continuing.
I conclude from the content and tone of your posts that nothing constructive can come out of our debate, so I think it’s better to stop it. Also, in the future, I will do my best to refrain from replying to your comments.
Please don’t consider that I am patronizing or insulting you with this post. I truly mean it: I apologize for stepping on your toes and I won’t do it again.
All the best,
Daniel -
