ParticipantNo it is not an impossible dream. There have been an increasing number of properties north of LSF/east of 5 that have closed for under $1 million. It’s an older tract area and you may need to do some updating but on the plus side the lot size is often pretty generous.
Personally I think this neighborhood has a ways to go before it bottoms out. It’s actually one of the neighborhoods I am looking to ultimately buy in if and when the price is right for me.

ParticipantI don’t know, downtown SD has a kind of Downtown Disney feel to me. Maybe like AN says it could develop into something more in 20 years and it probably will (but I think it’s going to be more than 20 years personally). Anyway I would not even mention our downtown in the same breath as the premier cities in America. It just doesn’t have an authentic city feel to it. Hard to explain. But when I think city I think NYC, SF, Chi…even Portland and SEA have more of a city feel than here. But we do have the weather….

ParticipantSo that REO sold for 18% less than its 12/05 sale of $1.425 mil. Not sure if 12/05 was the peak for that neighborhood or whether values went up further in ’06.

Participant“I read the other day that the size of the average US home in 1960 was 1200 square feet. By 1980 it was up to almost 1800 square feet and today it’s over 2200 square feet.”

Watching the lifestyle of the middle class evolve over the decades has been an amazing experience.
