Thanks for the thoughts! You may be right on the coming regret…As a working mom, I have to keep my commute time to an absolute minimum, and we love our neighborhood and schools in CV. So definitely we are staying in this area (The Heights, I think it’s called), one way or the other.

cvmomParticipantI thank everyone for their comments on this. Have been pondering whether or not to convert our IRA’s to Roth in 2010 and beyond for some time now. It’s a tough question, as the tax bite will certainly be large, and the tax-free distributions may or may not materialize. I am thinking maybe convert a portion but not all of our IRA’s to Roths in 2010 and see how the taxes shake out at the end of the year.

cvmomParticipantIn the small private school that my children attend in Carmel Valley, the ratios are great. Maximum 22 kids per grade–3 teachers in K, 2 in 1st grade, 1.5 in all other grades up through 6. Plus full-time music, Spanish, and computer teachers who serve the whole school. The level of tailoring of the curriculum to each individual is impressive. In my evaluations of my public schools (Carmel Creek, Solana Pacific, CVMS), the lower grades do not have a comparable solution for individualized work plans.
