ParticipantDave,
Don’t quite understand why you are so angry here or why you are judging me as one that is greedy. Once again, my post was simply to point out that many have been tempted into keeping up with the Jones all the way to financial ruin.
I feel that Greed caused alot of people to bite of more than they could chew during this housing bubble. It caused them to make unwise and uninformed (ignorant) decisions.
I find fulfillment in playing music becuase a) It’s a gift that I have been given b) It touches people’s lives in a positive way. Not money motivated..
Anyhow, no reason to go back and forth here taking potshots. If you want to judge me, and not even know me, that’s your perogative and that is fine. You win, your right, that’s fine by me….so let’s move on here.
Sincerely, Contraman

ParticipantDave,
From the tone of your response, it is obvious that you are greedy and that I hit a nerve with you. In the future, realize that when a person is offended (such as yourself here),it’s because they are guilty of the crime. Don’t give it away so easily……
I was trying to make an overall point concerning the rampant materialism that is prevalent in California and how that isn’t the most important thing in life to value. We won’t have to worry about that in a few years because when pain is present in the pocketbook for most people they migrate back to what really matters in life (seems to be how it works).
I have a lot of friends that were haughty as the sky during the boom and now they are getting there ass handed to them. They are refocusing and they are more pleasant to be around these days.
It’s not that we don’t need material things it’s just to what extent and CAN WE AFFORD IT. For instance, I can go into La Jolla at the let’s Go store and pay 100.00 for a t shirt that says HUGO BOSS on the front of it…..or I can go to Target and get the same t shirt without the HUGO BOSS for 5.00. I don’t need a ROLEX to be somebody, I have a TIMEX that tells the same time…..I don’t need a brand new car every year, or a “you name it” to keep up with the Jones Family. (and in case you are wondering I could buy all these things if I wanted to, it’s not that I am envious of rich people here).
GREED breeds ignorance because it causes you to not look at the fundamentals of a decision objectively. It is rooted in an insecurity somewhere along the line.
I am sorry to hear that you are a greedy person and that you feel that greed is a good thing. I am also sorry to hear that rely upon movie quotes to justify your position of being greedy.
Also, FYI, not every invention is motivated by money, it could be passion, or frustration, that is the impetus for the product or service, or simply the creativity that is unbridled in someone to INVENT. I am a musician and I don’t write music and perform because of money, I do it because I find fulfillment in it at the end of the day.
Anyhow, hope this helps put things in perspective for you. Take a few deep breaths here Dave, it’s Friday….go buy a t shirt at Target..they are on sale 3 for 10.00.

ParticipantStan, there are a lot of NECESSARY lessons learned and CHARACTER developed during hard times. I always look forward to them and what I can learn….This country has become a materialistic mess…..Mammon is our God….we VALUE the wrong things and teach our kids the same.
GREED was and is one of the major factors that has contributed to this calamity that is upon us….from Wall Street to your Street….
Maybe this country and it's people can get back to what really matters in life and VALUE that instead of what brand car someone drives, or watch they wear, or purse they carry, or neighborhood they live in….
I am glad I was born into a hard working family in the mid west that places little to no value on material things but rather HARD WORK, HONESTY, INTEGRITY, RESPECT FOR YOUR ELDERS, amongst other VIRTUES.
I think this really helped me to not get caught up in this mess…..I am fortunate to have parents that taught me WHAT REALLY MATTERS.
