ParticipantSolar Power, which I guess is actually part of the green movement. It seems like a no brainer, especially here in Southern California. Hopefully it won’t be hi-jacked by the scammers, the way real estate was.

ParticipantNow I remember why I dropped Econ 101. Trying to understand all this makes my head hurt.
I can’t help feeling though, that another depression is inevitable. I know, be careful what you wish for, but I can’t help thinking that America would be a better place if the current out of control consumer mentality came to a screeching halt. I enjoy living a fairly simple lifestyle, but sometimes feel out of place around my friends/acquaintances who are all caught up in their expensive cars, clothes, shoes, watches, sunglasses, TV’s, etc. etc… I’d prefer to be around people who are content just to have their needs met, and are able to truly appreciate the occasional splurge.
My focus right now is on paying down my mortgage and getting at least a years worth of living expenses stashed in the bank. If the economy does crash, I want to be as prepared as possible. Does anyone believe that another Depression is inevitable, or can an economy continue to expand indefinately?

ParticipantI drove by Fashion Walk last night around 9:00 pm and they were busy working on it, with big bright lights set up. Why would they be working at 9pm on a Friday night?

ParticipantContraman,
Very, very well said! Thank you.Although I find the thought of an economic crash somewhat frightening (fear of the unknown), I too tend to believe that we need one to “reset peoples value systems”.
It’s almost like watching a drug addict’s rapid decline and knowing that not until they hit bottom will they admit they have a problem that needs correcting.

Participantbsrsharma, regarding your comment,
“1. 80% or so of homes sold after about 2002 have explosive ARMs.”
does anyone know the total number of homes that have been sold since 2002? In other words, if 100,000 sales were made in the past 5 years, then that would mean there are 80,000 with explosive ARMs.
I’m just trying to get a feel for how many homes in S.D. are in trouble. I realize we would need to add to that number the homeowners who have HELOC’d themselves into trouble.
BTW, I live in a gated complex in Mission Valley and when I got home today there was a Notice of Trustees sale taped to the entrance gate. I wish I had a digital camera, I would’ve posted a picture of it.
