an friend of a friend is affected by this… sounds like they might be totally screwed out of about $20k. they really thought they were going with a solid, reputable company too. the article says that the state contractors license board is investigating hallmark for criminal &/or civic violations. any idea what that could mean?

one more question, should we change our california plates out as quickly as possible? i keep reading about how everyone in portland and oregon in general hates californians moving in!

meant to ask in my above post… are most of these remodeled vacant homes i see the result of flippers – or failed flips?August 29, 2007 at 10:09 PM in reply to: Why is Texas dirt cheap compared to California for real estate? #82518cindyParticipantbsrsharma-
are the prime areas in portland being hit hard as well? we are moving to portland for my husband’s job and have just been trying to get a feel for the market up there. from looking at homes online, seems that there are a lot of vacant listings in the west hills and other nice city of portland areas that have recently been beautifully remodeled. and a lot of the same homes i see for sale are also listed on craigs list for rent, at much less than it would cost to own the same house. we are comfortable sepdning about $700k eventually and it seems like you can get a really great house for that, just minutes from downtown. i realize that that still is a lot of money, but when you get used to ca prices it seems cheap.cindyParticipantlet me make sure i understand this correctly… so whether they do a short sale or just walk away and let the bank take the house back, they are hit with a 1099? for some reason i thought it was just for a short sale that they got the 1099… should definitely be for both though! so someone who walks from a, say $100k loss, will probably be making payments to uncle sam for the rest of their lives on that approx. $38k tax bill?
