ParticipantYour on to something FLU…
Just tell your kids that Santa called and said he was going to be late this year. Then have XMas a couple of days later and take full advantage of that buying discount!
Christmas for 70 percent off if you can delay it until December 29th or so!

ParticipantFrom the little I know of the “new” Ortega…
He was attempting to “re-packing” himself as a reformer. I think some of people who just went back (my family) under an “amnesty” program may be reconsidering but I haven’t heard. I’ll ask during thanksgiving. Some of my family was playing both sides of the fence during the war and many of their peers were executed. They made it out only to just recently return under the amnesty program which basically said we will return your property to you or something similar but you have to bring your nice fat American dollars back with you.
Who knows… He, Ortega, may start nationalizing again. All I know is that Nicaragua is a case in point where the only real stablity and wealth was garnered under a dictator. During Samosa’s time the country was the richest… now its the poorest… There was free press (I hate Chamora too… Damn sell out especially after they killed her husband in the streets)… Now… Free speech is tolerated to a point but it wasn’t for years.
But honestly I can’t tell you what happens on the day to day and people are generally happier than they were 15 years ago.
On a lighter point…
You know the economy is bad when I saw white guys hanging out with the Mexicans for work at Home Depot on Sunday.

ParticipantI am part Nicaraguan…
And though I never lived there a lot of my cousins did. They were ran out of town because their pop’s was a colonel in Somosa’s army and they use to tell me some very ugly story’s. Not limited to “american” presence long after the US was “out” of Nicaragua…
Consequently I am not a huge fan of Commies influence in Central and South America.
