For me the maximum at work day I could give was 9 hours. I was commuting to Irvine from north county. So all said and done… about 11.5 hours a day went to the company.
If I now can remote… I can give 10 hours to the company and I get 1.5 hours back… Win Win.
The company is saving on office space costs, yet they still expect you to work longer for them? How about they save on the office space and you STILL get to work 9 hours, not have your work day expand.
Remember, the person who used to live 15 min from work is being fucked by the expansion from 9 to 10 hours, even if you’re not.
I work longer hours because the team of people that I supported were people I respected and actually love. What hours I give to the company to get ahead or to support my friends are purely my business and my decision.
I know you are a big workers right advocate and respect that but there are some of us that are go getters.
My hours my choice.

CDMA ENGParticipantI didnt read all 13 pages of this thread but I read the first five and the last two…
One thing that I didnt hear mention of was that many companies saw an increase in productivity…
Why? Because most of us only have X hours in a day to devoted to work. If I have to get up and get ready that is time given to the company. I have to commute… again time given to the company… For me the maximum at work day I could give was 9 hours. I was commuting to Irvine from north county. So all said and done… about 11.5 hours a day went to the company.
If I now can remote… I can give 10 hours to the company and I get 1.5 hours back… Win Win.
That is an exchange that people want in tech.
There is a good portion of us that had to go into the work. Your bench engineers that have 100K in equipment to work with had to go in. There was no remoting for that but many could do design work from home or even remote into our equipment.
Remoting is here to stay because productivity went up. If companies see a decline then people will be called back.

CDMA ENGParticipantJust bought fencing on both sides of my house…
Roughly 75 feet on both sides with my neighbors on picking up half the cost and their gate cost. Cost to me was roughly 2100 each side plus another 500 per gate so I would say its in line with all the cost I have seen. Mine were vinyl with new post… And yeah the fence guys are so busy that they do not return calls…

October 30, 2016 at 10:14 PM in reply to: OT: I really wish Google Fiber would be in San Diego #802870CDMA ENGParticipantTwice before in this discussion there was the assumption that the Big Carriers wanted to provide ISP services via a wireless connection…
I can assure you that they do not.
The carriers are already sun-setting their 3G technologies, despite huge investments, in lieu of 4G technologies at a rate unprecedented. The carriers are reluctant to move into 5G investments at the same rate except for one major reason. Spectral efficiency… We are at a point of spectral exhaust… Meaning we are out of capacity and the way to gain that back is via new technologies that will give us new efficiency…
The FCC is not providing a whole lot of spectrum in the future…
The point I am drawing to with the long paragraphs before this is that serving our current customer base is challenging enough… We simply couldn’t bear more traffic unless we invest in local infrastructure to do that… and we already have… its the twisted pair into your home and in some cases fiber…
Yes it wont bear the rate of 5G but to obtain that means trenching fiber into each neighborhood and street. At that point you might as well bring it straight into the home…
Perhaps the future will bear this out but for right now its not in planning…
Regards.

Concur on that one… Something just doesn’t feel right about them…
Full disclosure though I have a card from them… It was just to build credit… Used it only a handful of times and the number has been hijacked 3 times already. Its on my get rid of list but my credit is soooo good right now I don’t want to damage it until I’m in the 800s..
But otherwise I would have called quits long ago…
And now they have Costco… Kind of conflicted on that one…
BTW every time there is an false charge on it… Its out of NYC… go figure.

Made my Nexus 7 slow as molasses… Even after a full cache wipe…
Doesn’t work well with the latest classes of phones too…

Amazon
Nothing like walking through a Frys and playing with the O Scope… Just cant do that on Amazon… That being said they need to be out of the appliance and TV areas… They do brisk business in the computer, computer parts, and accessories area.
Also I love the fish tanks in the San Marco store… Awesome.
CE
I’m worried about Frys. It is awfully quiet at the San Marcos store now.
And the right side of the store seems to be losing the computer parts and supplies focus.
I think Amazon et al may be taking a huge bite out of their customer base…not a good thing in the long run.
So if you really need something for the computer… I just built a “Tower of Power” machine… Full custom… I did buy something things at FRYs but New Egg had really good deals on most of it…
Back to the point… If you really need something New Egg is the way to go. Get the free shipping because the their distro center is in the City of Industry in LA so the parts come in a day or two…
Which is really nice…

This is not counting the number civilian deaths, which was about an order of magnitude higher.
The outcome of all of that was ISIS.

January 17, 2015 at 8:37 PM in reply to: OT: Lol Intel lost $4.21 billion in it’s wireless business #782124CDMA ENGParticipantI don’t think Intel could “look at themselves” in mirror if they didn’t make an earnest effort at the wireless market.
It’s simply to big of a market not to at least test yourself in.
Win or lose they had to at least be able to tell the stock holders and the Board of Directors that they made an attempt.

Have you shot the Sig .357 round? Its a cannon… Problem is I cant control it. At 75 feet I am all bull-eyes with my .40… I put that .357 barrel in it and just hitting the black is difficult… Its a mean round for sure but if you cant hit anything with it…BTW I shoot the P226 with interchangeable barrels…
CE
I think you may be ‘anticipating’ the shock, so you pull it. Might get better with practice, but you are right about ‘cannon’. I suspect that your first shot ever with the 357 was on, but afterwards you started ‘anticipating’ the recoil. You are using the P226 – so you must be using long/normal barrel. Can you try ‘dead resting’ the front of the barrel against a shot bag?
I have burned around 500 Sig rounds and I have never “settled down”. Its just a hard to shoot round.
My father in-law who is a crack shot… And I do mean “crack” (former marine shooting instructor) had a hard time with the round as well…
