Getting back to the original post, my point was that this tract is in Chino Hills, which is NOT in LA county, or any of the usual suspect high priced areas, but in San Bernadino county. $2M for tract homes? (Excuse me, semi-custom). Give me a break.

cashmanParticipantThe move to a central motor courtyard is motivated simply by one thing: higher density housing and more profit for the builders. I personally couldn’t stand it. Imagine having your remote control change the channel on five of your neighbors at once! And yes, it is a giant echo chamber. How about when your good neighbor decides to work on his Harley at 1 AM? No thanks, I’ll take some land and privacy, please. I think other design alternatives, such as putting the “snouts” on the side of the house are much preferrable.

cashmanParticipantNeighborhoods: Diamond Bar, Chino Hills, Walnut
Condo/House: House with min 10,000 sq. ft. lot
Price Range: 400-600K
Size Range: 2000-3500 ft, single story
Shopping the Market: Keeping informed online, but find open houses and calling on realtors a total wast of time right now.
Personal Thoughts: Prices are still ridiculous here, and after renting for a year and a half, I really hate it. I am not a happy renter. It sucks not being able to put in my home theater, plant any fruit trees, or doing anything to add the personal touches and pleasures of owning your own home. I’m 52 years old, and I sure hope this thing shakes out soon, preferably while I’m still living!cashmanParticipantNeighborhoods: Diamond Bar, Chino Hills, Walnut

Just shows you again, how bogus the media reporting is.

cashmanParticipantMasayako, I don’t know where you learned math, but your methods of calculation are way off. You can’t take the sum of two years of expenses for your investment starting point. It should be the initial cost of the phone, $650 with tax, plus any premium in the service plan, which in this case is $20. Remember, you should fairly compare it with another phone, not the stock market! And any other phone in the same category as an iPhone, such as a Blackberry, is also going to cost you something upfront, plus a premium for the service plan. So what is the net difference? Probably a couple hundred dollars. Hardly worth planning your financial future on it. So go back to school. And buy the way, phones are not “investments”, rather tools we use to communicate and have fun. It’s OK to have some fun, isn’t it?

cashmanParticipantI bought two of them, one for each hand. Seriously, I waiting in line for three hours on Friday and bought one for a friend, and one for me. Worth every penny and minute in line. It’s truly a revolutionary device. As usual, Apple has done it better than the competition, in design and function. I bought one of the first iPods when it came out. People thought I was crazy to spend $300 on an MP3 player. I simply replied, if you want the best you have to pay extra, just like most things in life. Doesn’t it cost more to live on the coast versus living in Temecula? Sure it does. Don’t under estimate the iPhone and the genius of Steve Jobs. And I wouldn’t be selling your AAPL stock yet. Wait until next month when earnings come out and they probably announce a stock split.
