Participant

here’s the reality kev…and i hate to be harsh, but ypu need to know… women want to have children with the best possible men. the really good looking, super studly successful ones….and you’re not him.
What the heck are you talking about. There are a line of women wanting to have kids with me..they are just not the women I want to have kids with.
Both my ex’es wanted to marry and have kids with me ASAP. I was the one who broke it off. My ex before my current ex even proposed to ME…complete turnoff but she ASKED ME to marry HER.
When I said I am not meeting women, I meant I am not meeting the women that gives me the 100% confidence to marry them and have kids, it’s always women who have a ton of baggage and not obvious baggage but the type who seem very normal on the surface but you find out only months or years later that there is some serious issue.
I don’t know what exactly you are implying, whether it is an insult to me or not. I do consider myself successful, educated, financially stable and socially presentable. In addition I have a ton of diverse interests and personal accomplishments in many of my hobbies. In term of male appeal I certainly would consider myself much higher than median.
In any case, this post was about my ex and her ridiculous baggage. When did it become about my dating appeal…LMAO!
And for the record, I know tons of women, even gorgeous attractive women, who have children with men I would consider complete trash. So please, your comment is absolutely ridiculous!
Kev, I’m reading this as one of scaredy’s tongue-in-cheek posts. He’s intelligent and witty, but he often posts things that are meant more to provoke thought than to make a point, IMHO.
Do not be offended by what he says.
I would also add that I disagree very much with what he’s saying here. Decent women will NEVER want to be treated like dirt. If a man dissociates himself from a woman and her feelings, he will either trigger a psycho response (if she really, really loves him and was convinced that he loved her, too, but is now pulling away), or she will dump his ass. The stuff scaredy is posting here is the stuff that the losers in junior high school will try. Don’t listen to scaredy on this one; just be yourself. After all, even John Travolta has had relationship problems. π
Having said that, do think about what you expect from a woman and compare that HONESTLY with what you’re giving them in return. If it doesn’t match up, then you need to reevaluate what you’re doing so that you can attract someone whom you feel is more your type.

ParticipantThanks for your input, BG. Glad to hear that your relative is enjoying her Speed Queen washer and dryer. What she’s said is exactly what you’ll find on the “laundry” blogs. People absolutely rave about the SQ machines in a way that you just don’t hear with the other brands.
FWIW, I recycled my old Kenmore 80 Series (~1997 model) when I bought the new washer, and the technicians who installed the new machine were so happy to get it. They said that they seek out these old machines because they are so superior to the new ones. They can often refurbish them and sell them for about what they had originally cost when they were new. They will either do that or use them for parts. Either way, it’s a win for them.
Just remember, if you want to get new SQ machines, consider getting them before the end of this year (maybe store them in your garage or something?), because the new regulations are supposed to affect SQ, as well.
It stinks that the govt is forcing all of us to be less green in the name of “energy savings” and “environmentally friendly” machines that, in reality, are FAR less “green” than the old machines.

Participant
Lovely. Obama just appointed Ron Klain (political hack lawyer and damage controller extraordinaire) as “Ebola Czar.” Instead of (say) a former military doctor with public health experience. Where’s the fucking logic, unless Obama views this as an image crisis first and gives a shit about the American public second?
And I’m speaking as someone who voted for Obama and supported at least some of his policies.
Agreed. It is all about preventing panic and chaos…forget about the disease.

Participant
CAr, you sound a good homemaker what makes sure everything is clean for her family.
but how do you wash large items like comforters in a top load? I find that front loads are better for large items.
I am able to wash all of our blankets in the top-loader. Because of the space limitations of our washer, and because our family tends to run warm, we have thinner, less bulky blankets/comforters that are easier to wash.
For the odd things that can’t be washed in our washer (mostly sleeping bags and stuff like that), we take them to the laundromat. But this is very rare.

Participant
Didn’t science prove that it’s better not to raise your kids in a highly sanitized environment? I don’t have a link but it seems like that was news a few years back. Maybe even our pediatrician was saying it.
This is true.
While I like to keep everything clean and sanitary, I try not to go too overboard with it. Our kids get dirty and play outside with other kids every day, and they go to parks and other places where kids (and tons of germs) congregate. My goal is to keep the inside of our house clean. π

Participant
What model did you buy and how much did you pay for your speed queen, if you don’t mind sharing?
…Electronics allow more precise cycles. You can’t do the same with mechanical controls.
Forgot to answer this before. We got the AWN542 model for $829. Tax was about $70, and installation about $60. Less than $1,000, and is supposed to last for a good ~20 years.
Since most of the other new machines are made to last no more than 5-10 years (and many of them cost over $1,000, too), we should not only have a machine that washes better, but have a machine that will end up costing us less than half of those other new machines over time. And it’s “greener,” too, because of it’s longer life cycle since this requires less mining for raw parts, less environmental pollution in the manufacturing process of a replacement machine, less pollution and energy usage due to transporting the machine overseas (for this machine, since it’s made in the US, and accelerated replacements of other new machines), and less waste/pollution at the end of life of the machine. All in all, a total win, IMHO.

Participant
The making a family stage is the easiest as far as maintaining a pair bond. Kids are consciousness altering for the better even it they do poop their diapers all the time .
Loyalty is an interesting topic and thanks to CaRenter I am considering the possibility of getting kicked to the curb when the kids are out of the house in about 10 years. Never really trust anyone. Thanks CaRenter! You have spoken well for your gender.
I must have missed something here. Why do you think you’ll be kicked to the curb in 10 years? And how did I convince you of that?
…
And as far as kids making it easier to bond with your spouse…the fact that you say that means that you’re probably an excellent father and husband (which I’ve always assumed about you, BTW). But all too often, making babies is where the rubber meets the road; and far too many males start heading for the exit, either directly (straight abandonment) or indirectly (by becoming such a repulsive, selfish louse that he essentially forces the wife to divorce him) once the babies are born.

I’m married to an Italian…. according to 23andMe I’m 70% British/scottish/Irish. According to family history, I’m 1/8th German.
Ah, now that makes sense! π
It’s amazing to see how much information you can get from 23andme’s genetic testing.

Personally, I hope that a slowdown in the financial industry would force a diversification of the city into things like tech firms and R&D. A lot of creative effort put towards the finance industry (shifting Monopoly money around) is actually wasted effort — imagine if more of our best and brightest went into engineering and hard science vs finance. We have the world-class universities and a lot of damn smart people.Keep in mind that Bell Labs was founded in NYC, so this would not be unprecedented.
Could not agree more. We need to move away from speculation and into more productive ventures.

ParticipantJust for fun, I looked up the most expensive weddings in history. Of the top 12, only 4 of them haven’t separated/divorced yet; 8 have separated or divorced (most divorced). Of the 4 who are still married, 3 of the couples are still youngish and/or more recently married, so probably haven’t yet experienced many of the trials and tribulations that come with a long-term marriage. The other couple is Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, and rumor has it that they’ve been having problems and have even separated for awhile.

If anything, there seems to be an inverse relationship between the high cost of a wedding and the chance that it will succeed. IMHO, that makes sense, as the type of person who obsesses over a fancy/expensive wedding (the superficial, where all the glory is) usually isn’t the type who obsesses over having a good marriage with all of the planning, work, sacrifice, and “boring” stuff that needs to happen in order to make it successful .

ParticipantYou’re very good with money, UCGal. You got a lot of “wedding” for that money!
Love the pic, too! Beautiful! You have gorgeous hair. Definitely look Irish (though I know you’re Italian). π

Talk to your wife – I’m sure she would see it as equally risky.
If not more risky.
