Participant
Alternatives? Sanders. Also not in the pocket of Wall St scum.
+1, spdrun.
Bernie Sanders is the most ethical candidate running for president, IMHO. His record speaks for itself.
If you doubt that he is anti-establishment, ask yourself why the mainstream media has done everything to ignore him even though he’s attracting the largest crowds, by far, of any candidate from any party; has the greatest number of volunteers; the greatest number of small-dollar donors; and has the most enthusiastic and energized supporters of all the candidates…and it is all totally grassroots. Also ask why the ONE TV personality who gave him any airtime (Ed Schultz) was pulled off the air shortly after Bernie agreed to run for president.
The DNC has even structured the debates to favor Hillary and give Bernie as little exposure as possible. He is absolutely not part of the establishment.
He doesn’t take money from Super PACs and is pushing to get money out of politics. He’s one of the poorest politicians in congress — no fraud.
Talk to people from Vermont…you’ll never hear a more enthusiastic and devoted group of people talk about a politician. Vermonters absolutely LOVE Bernie.

Here he is taking on Alan Greenspan:
Bernie on the war in Iraq (he voted against it from day one):

His position on the bank bailouts and the financial deregulation that caused the credit bubble and ensuing financial crisis.

ParticipantDitto what BG said. Yes, you need to do more research, and there is nothing better than “boots on the ground” research when you really want to know what’s going on in the world.
Talk to people, ask questions of those who would know — perhaps some of the teachers or parents from those schools. Do what BG suggested and see for yourselves.

No baggage? How about advocating/voting for the destruction of families? That’s what socialists do via the welfare state.
Bernie Sanders on family values:
FWIW, I agree that children do best when they are raised by both of their parents in the same household (every study bears this out). But I don’t believe that welfare is solely responsible for the disintegration of the traditional family unit in the U.S. It might have some effect, but it’s a much more complex issue. Divorce laws, especially “no-fault” divorce, have played a major role. The social push to not judge those who disregard their obligations to their families is also a part of the problem. The social pressure to pretend that marriage is an “obsolete” tradition is a big part of it, too.
It’s a complex problem, but ALL of us have to accept responsibility for our part in it.

Participant

Thousands of “Mexican” kids (yes, crossing the US border every single weekday) attend US public schools and community college in SD and Imperial counties.
Oh my, we’ve got children getting an education and bettering their lives!
We need to hire more government workers to stop all of this government spending!
You’ve misattributed that quote (probably intentionally, as usual). Not unlike your habit of editing posts (cutting out some of the most important points, adding in your own words and attributing them to other people’s quotes, intentionally quoting out of context, etc.) in an attempt to completely twist what someone says, often to the extreme opposite of what was actually said, to suit your trollish needs.
Carry on, pri_dk. We all know your game already.
You’re still in desperate need of a very intensive reading comprehension class. You don’t know how to read and/or you are 100% troll; more than likely, it’s a combination of both.

Participant
CAR, you might not have to worry about the Latinos infiltrating America if the current trend continues. You should be worried about the Asians: http://newamericamedia.org/2015/10/asian-immigrants-likely-to-overtake-hispanics-in-us-population.php
OMG, the Asians are coming, the Asians are coming…
But a significant portion of the Asian immigrants have money, and many of them are pretty well-educated. That’s not the case with most of the **illegal** immigrants coming over our southern border.
Again, quality and quantity matter.

Participant

I doubt it’s true.
I know a guy who crosses frequently. The border patrol grill him which causes him to be frequently late. They ask him. What are you coming for? Shopping? Where’s your money? Where’s your credit card?
Sometimes he’s sent to secondary inspection. The kids would be late to school all the time and they would fail. Plus they would have to lie to the border patrol as to the reason for crossing.
brian, don’t you have a flexible schedule?? Why don’t you drive to aforementioned trolley station next time you’re down here. Make sure you get there by 6:30 to 6:45 am on a weekday and stay at least one hour. Alternate observing the parking lot drop-off zone and sitting on the benches with trolley riders. I guarantee you’ll get an eyeful.
Agree, BG. People just need to check it out for themselves.

Not sure if they still have this program, but one of my former roommates would come across the border for school every day when she was a child. Her parents didn’t even drive her to the border. Buses would bring them over every day. From what I understood, it was an official program. Not sure of the purpose, though. It was supposedly a select group of kids who could attend school in the U.S.

Participant
Just once, I’d like there to be a candidate who I could be excited about. Either party – I’m independent. It always comes down to a question of who rankles me least. They all lie and pander to the extremes of their parties to get funding. No longer surprising, but still disappointing.
Participant
I think that the % of Latinos who seriously believe in the Aztlanista bullshyte is about the same as the % of WASPs who are KKK members. Most are here to actually improve their conditions, not join with a country that they ran away from…
And bullshyte it is — the Aztec empire never extended into CONUS. Also, don’t lump all Latinos together, unless they have Mexican or Guatemalan ancestry, there’s really no reason to buy into the Aztlan crap at all.
We’ll have to respectfully disagree about that. Please do some more research on this to see what this movement is about.
BTW, I’m not talking about the lower-level immigrants who are desperately seeking a way out of a hopeless situation in their own countries. The “Atzlan” folks are more powerful, and they are prominent in the immigration reform movement here in the U.S. They exploit the poor workers who come pouring over our border and use them to further strengthen their movement.

Participant

Perhaps only extremists are lobbying for literally open borders. However, all of this talk (mostly from liberals) about immigration “reform” is certainly implying an open border policy. As immigration “reform” really means amnesty.
Well if we as a society are going to say its okay for millions of people to enter the country illegally, break our immigration laws, work illegally (in many cases using fraudulent ID/SSN)and then get rewarded with green card and eventual citizenship, we are basically saying that our existing borders and immigration laws mean nothing.
I don’t think it’s that simple. They are here so what do you do with them? You’d need a pretty big ship. Then there’e the vote, cheap labor that so many benefit from, public outcry from forced repatriation, and potential humanitarian crisis across the border. The horse has bolted but I guess you can still close the barn door.
Take away the bait (jobs, free schooling, free healthcare, etc.) and the fish swim away. It doesn’t require a single ship, truck, train, or bus.
