Participant“what the people did with the money”
Could some of them be sharp enough to have sent that 200K to Cayman islands or Bahamas? You do it five times and you can retire not too bad. I suspect at least some would have figured this.

Participant“brown lawns really jump out at you!”
Someone should shoot a video of all the green mosquito ponds in a town (quilted google earth or terraserver). That will be pleasantly disgusting.

Participant“What if they went on and then the next day everyone ..”
I would at least like to think people will show some sympathy and try to help whatever way they can. Misfortunes can happen to anyone, I don’t think anyone with a fibre of humanity will ridicule them, at least in their face. But I agree it is not your domain to advice them on that.

Participant“they made a bad financial decision”
My only criticism is they may be making a bad financial decision now by letting go of a potentially good, relatively risk free opportunity. Even a ten minute face time on prime time national TV (a million $ value?)can be converted into many times their house’s value ($500K?), if played properly. I don’t know what their problem is. After all, it is not like some “adult show” or anything.

Participant“but then they declined.”
Aren’t they smart enough to get a book deal/Hollywood deal after appearing on a TV tearjerker? Even OJ & Monica Lewinsky got book deals. “Grapes of Wrath, Revisited” or “The New Arkies & Okies”.
