Participant
. . . While we are fact checking numbers, can somebody explain how UCSD has 26000 employees, that number sounds ridiculous.
It includes their hospital in Hillcrest. It’s believable…
Edit: They also have several clinics surrounding their hospital.

Participant
A very good point. And now the theaters reserve the right to search your purse or backpack. Probably to search for cheaper candy. It is not like he brought all his firepower in a backpack.
And they DO search. It is okay to bring in bottled water from home, “cheaper candy” and “microwave popcorn” in your oversized purse to Plaza Bonita (NC) and Ultrastar (ChulaV Mall). I’ve done it myself!
Regal Cinemas do not allow it.

Participant
I was curious and looked up where he lived. Very ordinary home in PQ. Parents bought in 2000 and never cashed out. They also kept old house which looks free and clear. Looks like he grew up in a financially conservative household. Of course, who knows what went on behind the front door.
I KNOW you don’t want to believe this, but sometimes kids turn out with mental problems as an adult … thru no fault of their upbringing …

Participant
…Yeah, we could attempt to totally eliminate one-in-a-million crime, but that would lead to a totally controlled world that’s not much fun to live in. Any litigation against the theatre would be money grubbing, plain and simple.
I understand. But I think it will happen, regardless . . .
btw, those “emergency exit” doors are supposed to set off alarms. You have to ask yourself what happpened with that and if they did, why didn’t the theatre security respond?
The victims’ families are entitled to these answers and they no doubt will get them … in one way or another…

ParticipantWhy do you want to refinance so soon, Mark? Did you remodel and re-landscape it sufficiently so as to appraise for enough to get you out of the (FHA) MIP??

ParticipantSecond largest employer: County of San Diego 20,500 employees
Fourth Largest employer: City of San Diego 19,500 employees
http://www.sandiegostop10.com/Employers.aspx
I can say for certain that approx 12 years ago, the county of San Diego had a little over 27K employees and the City of San Diego had approximately 23,500 employees.
Even back then, it was a hardship keeping up with the workload when employees took vacations, were out sick or injured or were on FML.
I can’t imagine how they’re doing today with this severely reduced workforce. Are they really that much more automated in that they don’t need the former amount of employees?
My counter-service experiences in recent years tells me no. The public is now likely waiting longer for everything and the work backlogs are enormous and unrelenting, even moreso than in the past. In addition, the county population has gone up by 400-500K since then and the City population by 80-100K.
I don’t see any more cutbacks in this constellation unless the public is okay with reducing business hours of almost ALL local agencies.

Participant
…It’s still hard for me to believe only 5% or less of US households have $1MM or more in investable assets–especially with all of the “attitudes” you see in CA–and I’m saying that as a native.
flyer, I can believe it. I believe 90% the under 50 group live solely on credit and out of those 90% over half live paycheck to paycheck to keep mo payments made on that credit. The other portion (unemployed and underemployed) are only making sporadic payments, the minimum payment or none at all on that credit.
Most of the over 50 group has had a portion of their income cut off, whether thru job loss, retirement, semi-retirement, etc. So they don’t have the income to service the same level of debt as their younger counterparts. Nevertheless, the over-50’s who are still employed are trying to service debt, pay of their principal residence or are doubling/tripling up on saving for retirement. Most of the boomers who lost their jobs too early (or gave them up for health reasons) have learned to live within their (now) lower means. This is due to childhood conditioning from “WWII era” or “Greatest Generation” parents (who lived thru the great depression) and hammered into us the virtues of economizing :=]
If you lived all or most of your life without a smartphone and other gadgets, a newer luxury car, convenience food and cable TV, it doesn’t bother you so much if you don’t have these things now.
I honestly don’t know what today’s 30-yo mother of three does about her smartphone acct ($75+ per month) when her 5 years of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) gig is up.

Prick was a coward. Should have shot himself.. Only upside, I hope they put him in general population…
I think Colorado (at least theoretically) still has the chair. As much as I dislike the death penalty, a death sentence in this case wouldn’t make me too upset.
My prediction is that Holmes will be advised to cop a plea that he was legally insane at the time of the shooting and in the weeks leading up to it. He can’t really go to trial. It’s a huge waste of time and money. There were hundreds of witnesses who saw his hair colored red as “the Joker” and that was exactly the way he was arrested. He even told cops, “I am the Joker.” Even his own mother said that “they got the right person” and she wasn’t even there!
If found legally insane, he will likely end up at a state psychiatric facility, at least for the first year.
What is most troubling to me is that Holmes entered the theatre as an unarmed regular customer and no alarm was set off when Holmes exited the emergency exit to get his body armour and weapons. Had there been, it would have likely alerted theatre security to the door and he would have never made it back in to do the shooting. I think this issue could end up being a cause of action in civil proceedings against the owners of the theatre.

Participant
. . . Being Catholic, I generally avoid casting aspersions on another’s beliefs, since the Mother Church has her own sordid history in this respect…
Yes, being raised a Catholic myself, I, too, am mindful of the Mother Church’s “sordid history…”

Participant
. . . The Mormons seem rather benign, no? I guess not.
What sort of perfidy are they up to, in their special Underoos? . . .
[img_assist|nid=13925|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=46|height=46]
Alan, you’ve got even me now frequently perusing my “Merriam Webster” bookmark!
The few “Mormons” I have met throughout life were NOT “benign,” by any stretch of the imagination. All were men who had problems with perfidy, among other indiscretions … in varying degrees. One was so perfidious, he could no longer tell truth from fiction and believed his own tall tales.
No offense to any Piggs out there but this has been my personal experience.

Participant
In our first segment lets start with the Crown Jewel of Fire Stations in RSF. I was dropping my daughter off at Helen Woodward for Critter Camp and finally had a chance to snap a quick picture. Adorned with imported hand hewn stone from the finest quaries in Italy this Tuscan masterpiece features multiple balconies for the residents viewing pleasure.
[img_assist|nid=16473|title=Crown Jewel of RSF|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=466|height=350]
Why don’t you try to get an appt in there for a “coffee klatch” with its inhabitants (Folgers and powdered creamer, that is, if you can stand it). You could ask to bring your daughter in there to meet the resident Dalmatian :-]
While you’re there, you can sit out on a balcony and ask the “residents” about their “cushy lives” living in the “Crown Jewel.” You could learn all about their daily duties associated with living in the “Crown Jewel” since you probably think they all sit around watching their ipads waiting for a call.
Before you leave, don’t forget to ask each one how many hours they get to “live there” before going home and thank them for their service.
You never know. You might desperately need their services some day :=0

Participantparamount, the SCRA used to be referred to as the “Soldiers and Sailors Relief Act” (SSRA). I know it well, having owned rental units in the past which were in close proximity to NAVSTA SD (32nd St) for 8 yrs.
If you are happy with your tenant’s excuse without proof, want them to be compelled to leave the premises presentable and think you can re-rent it quickly, then I wish you the best of luck. The key is to get them out without leaving too much debris behind which will cost you to dump and hope they don’t damage anything costly to replace.

Participant

And not sure MM would have $2M properties (ask AN) but would have to say no. MM is entirely on tract.
Except for these: http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-120017706-5912_Shaw_Lopez_Rd_San_Diego_CA_92121
YIKES, AN! That’s rather “industrial-looking.” The landscaping is nice but the interior appears to be rather stark. The block looks like “lizardland” but has no MR. Is 92121 part of MM? I was referring to 92126 when I stated it was “entirely on tract.”
Questions: It states it was built in 2010. Do you know if it has ever been occupied? If not, why has it only been listed for 105 days? Has it been listed before? And the 1995 previous “sale” for $1M … was this a bulk land sale (which was later subdivided? There is little there on the street and this property sits on a lot < 1/4 AC.
