barnaby33ParticipantI must say whenever I read a title that says may or might when it comes to bad news, I just assume it is fait accompli. Furthermore I just assume the headline is nowhere near negative enough.
Why must GM’s bankruptcy and future viability be tied to nationalized healthcare? It wasn’t terribly competitive throughout most of the 90’s and certainly wasn’t in the 80’s when the Japanese starting eating our lunch. I personally feel that too much emphasis is being placed on healthcare costs, and how to continue to offer those benefits, when the realization should be it was a dumb idea to offer them and they cannot be continued.
After GM goes through a bankruptcy and has its cost structures aligned with what the market can absorb, then we could have a national debate about the costs and benefits of nationalized or employer provided care. I just don’t see these issues as being tightly linked to GM’s future, so much as its past and the unrealistic expectations that its employees and retirees have.

barnaby33ParticipantI figured in order to have a thread this rant filled, it had to be started by partypup, or start with Powayseller said.
IT is pretty diverse. Java is not dead, Microsoft is not the evil empire devouring the planet. Very few people seem to be hiring. Software engineering is real engineering. No you don’t have to live in CV to be an engineer. Lots of qualified people in IT don’t have any formal IT education, I happen to.
IT, is no longer the wild west/gold mine of the last few decades. Many of us will have to move to find jobs in the current recession (just like the last one.)

barnaby33ParticipantOn Wall St, early = wrong. Lots of people think of me as the uber-bear. Even I didn’t think the market was going to go this low. The rate of decline is flat out shocking. Each time we hit a new low though I look around and see that the fraud and lies aren’t being forced out into the open YET. Until that occurs, economic recovery will not occur.

barnaby33ParticipantGrowing up in Valley Center we’d here the artillery a couple of times a year. It was always soft and distant. I always associated the sound with the SAC bombers from March AFB circling at 40k feet. Ah, childhood memories.
