barnaby33ParticipantBuyorhold, have you not been reading this site? You couldn’t seriously expect you’d get advice to buy now, especially in Carmel Valley area.
I personally get annoyed when someone who hasn’t seemed to have posted here before asks a question, which has a fairly obvious answer to this community. Spend some time reading through the forums first. There is a wealth of information there. Then ask some questions that specifically pertain to what you still don’t understand. In my opinion you should buy now before the market shoots up again at the end of summer!

barnaby33ParticipantWell since you already posted, you asked for it. This is not a site for real estate weasels who gambled and the market turned against them. Hire a lawyer.

barnaby33ParticipantWhat a cool neighborhood. All your neighbors wear blue, awesome! Its not this seasons color, but coordinating like that takes real effort. Bravo, it shows real community spirit!

barnaby33ParticipantJWM, we aren’t 77 lenders into the latter. We are 77 brokers of loans into it. Most of the cash was fronted by other parties.
Now if you can show me that the suppliers of the money are destroying it (by not lending it out) then your statement holds real value.

barnaby33ParticipantSomehow Hawk I don’t think its that simple. A flight from the dollar means a flight from the, “customer of last resort.” Until I see China our financier of last resort really change its behaviour I don’t see the dollar tanking in a sudden fell swoop. That is not to say I don’t see it getting weaker.
Its begun, but slowly. As a corollary to whats coming (inflation), what interest rate would each of you require to buy 10 year treasury bonds (5%, 7%, 12%)? When our creditors stop lending cheap the US govt isn’t going to all of a sudden stop borrowing.

barnaby33ParticipantNot to mention that if you are in cash, you can quickly switch to inflation resistant investments. Even in the best of times it takes a month to sell a house. Now is not the best of times.

barnaby33Participant23109VC, not to pile on you, but I don’t think its reasonable to remove the principal payment from your calculations to make it even. If you were to do that, you might as well add a risk premium for ownership based on the likely hood of damage. Renting has zero (almost) risk.
Prices will be back, you won’t get a serious argument there.
Seems like after looking at the numbers you bought for emotional reasons, so just be honest. It wasn’t a majority economics decision despite your attempts to paint it that way.
On the other hand congrats on making the decision, I just hope you are happy with it and will stick around the community to let us know whats happening in your world.
