barnaby33ParticipantIt seems to me to be more like the 80’s era of Junk bond kings, leveraged buy outs, and an upcoming S&L crisis.
Which if I remember correctly, caused credit contraction, which either caused or exacerbated a recession in the early 90’s.

barnaby33ParticipantI say calm down, sit back and watch the major indexes today. Its been ugly so far. I shouldn’t have sold my Lennar puts yesterday, but oh well.

barnaby33ParticipantBottom line being that many hedgies stand to realize massive windfall CDS profits when the defaults occur and the insurance has to pay up.
The underlying assumption being that they can pay up. I am guessing that a fair number can’t.
On an unrelated note, this article is a nice primer on how debt creation all the way from mortgages to synthetic CDO’s occurs.

barnaby33ParticipantA co-worker asked me if there were any way to short this market. I said I didn’t think so, at least for retail investors like him/me. Are there ways for large institutional investors to do this? Are there any funds out there that are short on RMBS CDOs?

barnaby33ParticipantI forgot to mention, the commentator says that the practice taking bids from the wall is not illegal. Does anybody know if that is true?

barnaby33Participantfat_lazy_union, is your last name Jones or are you just trying to keep up?
As to plasma TV’s, they are a set piece like granite counter tops. I suppose people pick on them because thats the biggest size that is widely available. Plasma TV’s came on the market en masse at just about the time the RE bubble really started blowing up. Its no suprise that people associate them with excess. I sincerely doubt its envy.

barnaby33ParticipantWaiting hawk, I believe its “”the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay liquid“.
Parts of NP, Hillcrest, Mission Hills.
I-5 Corridor (west side) From Del Mar to Solana.
Blossom Valley (its right by my paragliding spot)I’d prefer a house, but will settle for a condo as long as its 1200 sqft and has an attached 2 car garage and I don’t stare into my neighbors living room.
Somewhere in the low 400’s, with 20% down already mostly saved. I’d have more if my investment adviser weren’t so lazy.
