I have an orbital. Need a belt sander. Can’t do the HD buy and return thing, that’s dishonest. I’m taking it slow and really breathing in the fumes as I slowly remove sections. FLU just think of how distraught you’re going to feel for not participating in this project. Not only will you miss out on a true neighborhood beautification project, you could’ve helped the little guy!
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantAfter 2 coats of chemical paint stripper and scraping. Come on FLU, grab a belt sander and lend a stranger a hand!
barnaby33ParticipantI started with the citrus strip for one small section and yeah it’s going to be a beast, which is why a shop would be best. Not because it would be cheap but because they have the tools to do it faster-er-ish. I’ll post a picture of my failure soon.
barnaby33Participant“Spiral out of control,” is one of my favorite phrases to describe a long term asset that could become a liability. Top 10 for sure.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantWhat about it blowing up and causing necessary economic harm?
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantRIP sir.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantNow you’re just bragging.
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantNot a bad idea. So how handy are you? What would you charge?
Josh
barnaby33ParticipantSo a couple of things.
1) Yes the prep is most of the work. That’s why I’m willing to pay someone to do it.
2) I want to get the inside stripped because it’s a paneled door. The panels are going have to be sanded manually, unless there are special tools for that.
3) The idea being if I can get it sanded down in a single day I won’t leave my house open, but during that time yes of course I won’t have a door.
4) I live in a condo. The HOA owns the outside so I can’t do anything really. Plus they are painting the complex so I thought now is the time to do the inside. It’s a solid Mahogany door so returning it to a wood stain finish would be nice!
5) Even assuming I wanted to do the stripping. It’s not a 1 day DIY job. I’d have to have the door off for several days.
6 )Buying more tools is an issue since my garage is already full. I have an orbital sander for smaller jobs.
barnaby33ParticipantThere should be what?
barnaby33ParticipantI know this thread is NCC, but are there any areas which are exhibiting behaviour that would more directly align with economic stress ie: layoffs and higher interest rates?
Joshbarnaby33ParticipantShort and sweet! How was it?
Joshbarnaby33ParticipantMy fix is to add “?xxxx” to the end of the URL, where the x’s are some random string of characters. Ghetto, but works.

barnaby33ParticipantSeems hard to believe that it’s a good time to buy rentals, it’s not like they pencil out.
