Participant
I work for one of the companies there.
From my experience with talking to numerous friends/colleagues out there who have kids,
none of them want to buy a house in SV area although they are OK with buying a condo if they don’t have any kids.
MM n general has a reputation of not having good schools in comparison with Poway/Scripps/PQ etc.
MM schools may be getting better but to change the public perception it would take many years..
Which is why comparable homes in SV/MM is $100k-200k cheaper than some of the areas that have better schools. If the schools is as good as those other areas, you would being seeing SV/MM selling for at least the same price as those areas if not more, due to its proximity to high tech jobs. Different people have different priority. I can’t deal w/ having to commute to Poway/Scripps/PQ from SV, while many don’t mind.May 17, 2011 at 10:36 PM in reply to: GSE limits slated to drop (PLUS bonus question for mortgage experts) #696148an

Participant
$3000 to rent 2800sq ft in Sorrento Valley seems a bit expensive.
I guess you don’t know this area very well. Here are some examples:
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/apa/2373181559.html (2700 sq-ft vs 2900 sq-ft)
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/apa/2383390423.html (Same floor plan but no way they’ll get the $3850/month asking price)
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/apa/2384495506.html (2500 sq-ft vs 2900 sq-ft)
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/apa/2386430542.html (2100 sq-ft vs 2900 sq-ft)
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/apa/2379564671.html (2000 sq-ft vs 2900 sq-ft)
So what if it is close to a lot of high tech business parks, who wants to live near an industrial park???
People who don’t want to be stuck in traffic everyday? People who want no more than 10 minutes commute to work while still get big newer houses with canyon view?May 17, 2011 at 9:49 PM in reply to: GSE limits slated to drop (PLUS bonus question for mortgage experts) #696133an
