Straw man argument. Nobody has suggested such a preference. Historically, the US tax code has provided preferences both for earned and various types of unearned income. With very minor exception there is little empirical evidence that rate changes, by themselves, either promote or reduce the availablity of capital or labor.
Are you sure nobody has suggested such a preference? Here, I’ll help you out:
IMHO, we need to discourage gambling and encourage work. That’s why I would lower the rate on **earned** income, and tax investment income at a much higher rate, with steeply progressive rates.
What does “much higher rate” mean to you?an
ParticipantSo those who prefer active income vs passive income prefer people working till they die vs being able to retire. After all, once you retire, you’re not making active income anymore.

ParticipantHaving a yard is a must for me. I do have a toddler and it’s so much more convenient to let him play in the yard than having to take him to the park. He has toys in the yard that he plays with. If he want to play with those toys at the park, I’d have to pack up those toys in the car and unpack it at the park. Which would be a huge hassle. Right now, the toys just sit in the yard and when he wants to go play with it, I just take him outside.
