Participant
Dear fellow prop. 30 haters,
Don’t despair because prop. 30 passed. The fact is that Democrats now gained 2/3 supermajority in both state assembly and state senate this election. So if prop. 30 had not passed, those tax increases would have happened any way.
Always look at the bright side …

Would that mean CA will no longer have any problem, since Democrats can do almost anything they want?an
Participant

Oh my, 50-49 and it’s a clear mandate…
I have long memory.
In another time and place there was another president who also won 50.x-48.x but claimed a mandate!
President Bush proclaimed his election as evidence that Americans embrace his plans to reform Social Security, simplify the tax code, curb lawsuits and fight the war on terror, pledging Thursday to work in a bipartisan manner with “everyone who shares our goals.”
Bush staked his claim to a broad mandate and announced his top priorities at a post-election news conference, saying his 3.5 million vote victory had won him political capital that he would spend enacting his conservative agenda.
“I earned capital in this campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it,” Bush told reporters. “It is my style.”
There is no way paying a little extra sales tax is equivalent to paying 10.3% state income tax on say $350k AGI! For someone who makes $350k a year that is $35k+ out the door to the mental midgets in Sacramento that you wouldn’t have to pay in WA State! I’m a frugal guy and I don’t buy a lot of shit so sales tax wouldn’t affect me much. I would save huge by moving my business to WA State.
I don’t think that’s how it works. The higher rate is tiered. So you pay the same taxes as always on your first $250k of AGI. Then a higher rate on the amount ABOVE $250k.
I could be wrong – but that’s how I read it.
CA income tax is very progressive. By the time you hit $47k, you’re already paying 9.3%. So, although it might not be $35k+, it should definitely be $30k+.November 7, 2012 at 9:39 AM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #753971an

You’re right, I haven’t been to China or India. I was just stating the population fact. Are you saying they’re not going to grow and increase energy consumption? Please educate me, since you’ve been to China recently. Are they in a huge bubble and their economy will crash and burn?November 7, 2012 at 9:05 AM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #753956an
Participant
Oh please. Have you actually seen how the average family on welfare lives?
Really the only thing that’s changing is that the playing field for health insurance is being leveled between the self-employed, small businesses, and large conglomerates. This is a good thing for capitalism and free-enterprise, since people will be more free to walk off and start their own businesses – immobility of labor due to insurance or other considerations is a bad thing.
Yes, I know a few. Do you?November 7, 2012 at 9:05 AM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #753955an
Participant
I’ll wait till this little lemmingfest is over, then I shall. Obama’s just a president, not a demigod or demon. Unless he starts dropping H-bombs, the world won’t end.
In fact, the world and environment is probably better off for not having Romney for US President. Obama is more likely to address climate issues rather than sacrificing them on the altar of the economy.
So, said lemming can sell today and when the lemmingfest is over, said lemming can buy when you buy. Would that make said lemming a lemming?Who’s saying Obama is a demigod or a demon? But I’ve said we can probably expect the next 2-4 years to be like the past 2 years. I.E. nothing going on. So, no, the world won’t end, but who ever said it would besides you?
Addressing climate issue? Yeah, I’ll believe it when we can get China and India to stop growing. Those two combined have a population that’s 10x us. Even if we cut our emission by 100%, if they increase their emission by 10%, we’ve gone nowhere.

What do people think would happen? Why work when you’re getting paid to not work. Especially when working doesn’t get you much more. Most people will find ways to work the least for the amount of money they need.November 7, 2012 at 8:38 AM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #753941an

Participant
I think more appropriately moving forward will do a maximum cash out refinance, and tuck that money into a tax sheltered/deferred account…
That’s what rich people do…They don’t realize capital gains if they can avoid it during a tax unfriendly year(s). They ask the bank for a loan, use the loan instead of realizing capital gains now, and then use the loan for reinvestment. Look at what Facebook founder is doing to pay for his pad. He’s taking out a cheap loan….
I hope the stock market tanks all the way until the end of the year… I hope we have falling rates, and I hope that this down market wipes out the investment spirit so that we can get some decent inventory locally again for the first quarter in 2013……..
I’m already doing that. I hope you’re switching to 30 years from a 15 years loan. Why pay a cent more and a day quicker when interest rate is near 0%.
I like how you’re thinking flu regarding inventory. I hope the market crash and burn too, for similar reason you stated. Not only that, but I just got in on some soxs and spxs :-).

Participant
i also did that 0% credit card arbitrage game for years. had about 40,000 at any given time. wasn’t a lot of money but itwas a nice little bonus. once you had your system set up it was no workat all. would’ve been awesome to have 400,000 in credit to work with…
My numbers was around $40-50k too. You’re right, it wasn’t huge, but that $2k a year “bonus” is great for paying for a nice family trip, all for 0% risk. Like you said, once you did it once, it really only takes like 5 minutes to do it again. I’m definitely shooting for the moon if the bank loosen up again. $400k-500k would be awesome.November 7, 2012 at 8:07 AM in reply to: Post Election Blues: Dow -176pts, Nasdaq -39, S&P500 -21 #753927an

Obama received a total of 69,456,897 (52.9%) popular votes.
McCain received a total of 59,934,814 (45.7%) popular votes.
10 million votes not a landslide?
Yes, that was somewhat of a landslide. But not nearly as big of a landslide as the Reagan vs Mondale 1984 election. CA and NY went red. 54,455,472 (58.8%) vs 37,577,352 (40.6%) popular vote and 525 vs 13 electoral vote. Now, that’s what I’d call a huge landslide AND it was from a re-election no less. I’d like to see one of those again in my life time.
