Participant
What do you folks think about taking a very small gamble on a very small position on Best Buy?
I’m thinking of a buyout…Question I guess is when…Before of after BK? :)
I’m also pondering it too.December 14, 2012 at 10:55 AM in reply to: OT: Reason #168 to hate california. stupid emissions rules #756282an

Participant

Not my problem…..
I was against all this “tax people more (particularly “quasi-rich”), so we can spend even more then we collect”…But apparently a lot of voters thought it was a good thing…Because after all, it’s always rich people’s fault….
Not my problem, not my concern… Now where are my refinance papers again….
Enjoy your place setting at the captain’s table flu, it will be in do course, as your on the Titanic…..
Regards,
Why wouldn’t you. If you know you’re on the Titanic and it’ll crash some day. Why not sit at the captain’s table AND secure your own life vessel when the time comes. What’s the point of running around in the boiler room complaining the captain is going to kill us all.

Participant

I have no idea. I’ve never seen annual income tax liability compared to net worth. Are you proposing an annual estate tax?
It’s only fair right? Why only make it harder for people who are trying to get rich. Why not also make current rich people not rich anymore like the rest of us or make it harder for them to stay rich.
Go with that. See how far you get. Not something I’d be in favor of.
Not very far, since money speaks and money controls our policy. So, it’s never going to happen. At least not until the wealth gap gets to the point like China, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc before the Communist party takes over.December 13, 2012 at 11:06 AM in reply to: “Rich” people should pay more taxes….Just not me….. #756260an

Buffett, Soros Join List of Billionaires Calling for Tax Hikes They Won’t Pay
This isn’t true. I have no idea about Soros, but Buffett released his 2010 tax return info. He also made a pretty specific proposal. And his rule would have increased his tax by over $5 million, almost doubling what he actually paid.
$5M from a net worth of $40B+? That’s less than 0.01%. chump change? What’s your average joe tax burden compare to their net worth?December 12, 2012 at 1:56 PM in reply to: State of CA public employee psychiatrist gets paid $822,000 salary #756199an
Participant
I have coworkers who would have way more than a years salary in vacation pay if we didn’t cap at 1.5x the annual accrual. They’ve stopped accruing because they hit the cap a long time ago. They are workaholics who never take time off.
(I don’t have that problem. LOL)
We all know those people. Even federal government have a cap. So, at the very least, state should do what the federal and many private companies do (1.5x max). My brother’s company don’t even let them carry over vacation at all.December 12, 2012 at 1:36 PM in reply to: State of CA public employee psychiatrist gets paid $822,000 salary #756192an
ParticipantUCGal, just so I read your post correctly, you’re saying that the guy’s pay is $400k but after vacation payout, his pay went up to $822k? That’s 100% increase from vacation pay? Who can save a year’s worth of vacation?

Participant
Kinda funny because two weeks ago, schwab gave me 50 free trades for rolling money in versus getting a $200 credit/kindle fire/apple gift card… I blew through that pretty quickly in a few days…That was fun..
Participant

Dow was at 10,4k last year in October. Even if it drops to 11k now, it’s not a big deal. In fact, it’ll be a mofo of a buying opportunity.
It never drop to 11k but it did drop ~800 points in 9 days. Did you get in and took advantage of the buying opportunity?
I got in two days ago at NXPI at $23.5 after I sold at 26.50… I sold again today at $25.50… Heh heh… Also, did this in my IRA account, so no tax hit for me in 2012 :)
This past month is my one of my luckiest month in awhile. I got out of SOXL in 11/6 and bought SOXS, then got out of SOXS and bought SOXL on 11/16. Still holding on SOXL right now. Did all of this in my 401k and IRA, so no tax for me either :-D. -
