Participant
I wouldn’t trust my life with autonomous car.
You know, I would not want to entrust an autonomous car with it’s decision making process if there is an unavoidable accident between you (with your kid in a passenger car) and the other car (with 5 people in it). The last thing I would want is for the car to take me off the road and kill me and my kid, simply because the algorithm was programmed in such a way to preserve as many lives as possible, even if the other car is driving in the wrong direction or driving recklessly…
Exactly. There’s NO WAY to program a computer to think and make split decision like a human. It doesn’t matter how many generation is passed. Everybody make decision different based on the same facts. That’s due to their own priorities and past experiences. These are the factors that the computer just do not have. The example flu gave is one such example. Someone else who don’t care as much about their own lives would gladly take themselves off the road.

ParticipantAre they finally going to connect the western side of Park Village to the 56 now? I always find it dumb not to have Camino Ruiz not go all the way from Miramar all the way to Camino Del Sur. After all, there is a tiny portion in Park Village it’s called Camino Ruiz but it is dead end on both sides. If you can get to the 56 from the West side of Park Village easier, I would think it’ll increase the desirability of the area. Especially if you can get to Intuit easier. It would definitely be more convenient for those living off Carmel Mt. Road, like Christmas card lane area. I wouldn’t think there would be negative impact on pre-existing homes. All I can think of is positives impact (easier access to freeway).

Participant
I hear Santee is only 15 minutes to the ocean….
LoL… oh the gift that keeps on giving 🙂At least Santee doesn’t have to deal with unbearable heat like Mira Mesa…
an
Participant
Given its propensity for heat combined with today’s massive congestion there, MM, to me, absolutely screams “tradeoff.”
Lets see, 92121 is cooler today than western Chula Vista, while Eastern Mira Mesa is cooler than East Lake. Yeah, lets talk about heat. FYI, 92121 is cooler today than Downtown San Diego. Why don’t you ponder on that for a second. As for massive congestion, you seriously have no idea what you’re talking about. I can get home in 5-15 minutes everyday and in non traffic time, I can get to most of San Diego county in 15-20 minutes. How about you?Unlike you, I don’t for one second think I’m not making a trade off to live here. I rather not have to deal with congestion and traffic everyday and have good schools. So that’s my trade off. I know it is a trade off. If I have $10M, I wouldn’t live here or Chula Vista for that matter. This is why you don’t see me saying someone else’s trade off decisions as wise or unwise.
I WOULD refer to MM as M***** Mesa (as San Diegans have commonly referred to it for decades), but I’m trying to keep it classy here.
FYI, you stop being classy when you’re calling other people’s decision as unwise without know why they make those decisions. Also, go ahead and say it, Manila Mesa. As I stated above, unlike you, I don’t mind that other people call Mira Mesa, Manila Mesa. But you seem to be offended when I called Chula Vista, Chulajuana. I don’t feel self conscious like you and pretend I’m not living in an area where others wouldn’t want to live, due to the trade offs I have to make for living here.an
ParticipantOne of the few American cars I would consider owning. You can either get this or a base Porsche with 300HP less. I choose this :-).
an
ParticipantIdeally, I agree with you. However, you have to think of those pictures as marketing materials. Why show something when it doesn’t put your listing in the best light? It can also be just laziness. They might think, oh, the room has no upgrade but it’s in livable condition, so why bother showing pictures of it. The pictures are there to pull you, the buyer, into the house and go see it. So, you’d only want to show the best picture of the house.
an
ParticipantVery well said zk. I agree 100%. I can understand it coming from flyer, since he can afford almost any house in San Diego, so it’s a little hard for him to understand. However, it’s hilarious coming from bearishgurl. She lives in an area that screams tradeoff.
Different strokes for different folks. But to say someone is not a wise buyer because their priority list doesn’t match up with yours is pretty lame. I would never buy a house by the freeway but then I also would never buy an old house in Chulajuana either.
svelte, I totally agree with you about floorplans. Which is why the only perfect floorplan is the one you design yourself. It’s perfect for you, but not necessary for anyone else. There are design factors that I love from the houses built in the 2000s and there are factors I love about houses built in the 80s-90s. Neither of them are perfect. My ideal floorplan would be a mash-up of those 2 eras.

Participant
For anybody who has an expensive and/or newer car of any price point, I would think there would be some pride in appearance. If cars were merely tranportation for point a to b, then I would buy a cheap, used beater.
Different strokes for different folks. I bought my car new and I would say it was relatively expensive. I baby it for a month or two. But that’s about it. I take pride in the performance of my car, not the appearance of my car. It could have a bunch of scratches and full of dirt for all I care. As long as it can hug corner better than most cars and can out accelerate most cars, I’m happy. Dirt and swirl marks doesn’t degrade the cornering ability, so I don’t really care. As I said before, my car is there to serve me, not only to get me from point A to point B, but also put a smile on my face while I get myself to point B.

Participant
There is something satisfying about having a nice looking well detailed car. However, if you get a black car, it can become an obsession. So avoid black at all costs unless you are willing to take on a new hobby.
It depends on who you are and how you view about car. My car is dark blue, so just as bad as black. However, I don’t really care. It only get washed 2-3 times a year. I view my car should be serving me, not me serving my car.

Participant
Well, I wouldn’t know ,because outside of warranty and the free maintenance, I don’t usually stop by at the stealership…. Looks like I might end up going to Midnight Oil or OMS eventually or servicing myself…
That was my assumptions before too. However, after several services that I need done, I found out the dealership sometime is cheaper than the independent shops AND they give loaners, which is a big plus on services that takes >1 day. There’s no way you can find labor for oil change + car wash + inspection for $20-25. I recently needed to replace my power steering rack, it was leaking, and the dealer labor end up being cheaper than independent shops and I get a loaner too. So, I bought a refurb rack at RockAuto and have the dealer install it.

Participant

I think I’ll take my car in for warranty work again and let them deal with the wash next week… Heh heh…
That’s how I get my car wash :-). I bring my Mobile 1 oil and my own filter and have the dealer change my oil for $23-25 bucks and they wash and vacuum my car :-).
Damn, $25 for labor isn’t bad at all.
That’s what happen when you buy Japanese :-). Both Infiniti and Acura charges between $20-25 for labor + car wash + inspection. How much does BMW/Mercedes charge for labor? Do they even let you bring in your own parts? I know that Mercedes of San Diego doesn’t allow you to bring in your own brake pads and rotors.an
ParticipantFirst, it’s PQ, not RPQ :-).
Pertaining to your question, would owning this home affect your ability to buy your home in your new area? Some lender (maybe most?) won’t take rental income into consideration for DTI until you’ve own the rental for 2 years. That’s also something you should consider as well.
Landlording is not for everyone. You should read up on it and see if you really want to go down this path. If you plan to only do it for short term, what happen if the market correct in a few years and you can’t sell for more than current value. Would you be OK with holding on even longer until you can get the price you want? I’m not sure being a landlord short-term make sense at the moment.
