ParticipantSDR: Dude, I was like 18 or 19 or something and I saw it on an Army base in Germany. It was the only thing playing, so cut me a little slack. Geez, it’s not like my favorite movie or anything!
Aecetia: It WAS a memorable line, alright?

Participantgandalf: Call me crazy, but I think a return to the 1930s style WPA-type programs would work, both as economic stimulus and a badly needed revitalization of our infrastructure.
I have no issue with environmental programs, but I don’t think there is sufficient critical mass in any one area (i.e. solar, wind, photovoltaic, etc) to provide the necessary momentum to effect change.
I think everyone would agree that our roads, bridges and pipeline systems are in dreadful shape and badly in need of repair or replacement.
Marion, I appreciate your responding to my request, but the idea that Obama has the requisite experience to understand which programs work and which don’t is wishful thinking is it not? Also, it’s been correctly pointed out that there isn’t enough money in the till to fund them anyway.
I like the idea that John is truly an east coast leftie playing the agent provocateur. Played that way, it does make sense!

ParticipantAecetia: I studied Russian in the Army (DLR Garmisch) and, you’re right: Use it or lose it. I can still read Cyrillic, but spoken Russian is way too fast for me.
We spoke German in the house as a kid and, same thing there: Been outta use for so long it just kind of fades. Well… Not all the words!
So: Medical field or Law?

ParticipantJohn: I wouldn’t go around admitting that out loud too often.
Yeah, when was that last Superbowl win, 1967? I’d like to see a Jets player pull a Namath and guarantee a Superbowl win against the Colts now. That’d be funny. Sad, but funny.
At least if you’re gonna pull for one of those foul NYC teams, root for the Giants.
