Participantzk: Right you are. I “discovered” baseball through Little League at the ripe old age of 7 (it was 1972) and my all time fave is “Hammerin’ Hank” Aaron.
I batted clean up for every team I played on from Little League through high school, so I loved the sluggers. Couldn’t field worth a s**t, which is why I played outfield my whole “career”, but I could knock the snot out of the ball.
Barry Bonds doesn’t deserve to carry Aaron’s jockstrap, let alone hold his record. And, yeah, I’m a Giants fan, believe it or not.

ParticipantVeritas: No, I haven’t, but I will add it to my list. I have been avoiding any non-fiction that is politically related as of late, largely because I am burned out on all the bulls**t that’s been flying around.
I have read a couple of books on Catholicism that were recommended by a fellow Pigg, as well as a book on Einstein and those seemed to do the trick when it came to avoiding politics or polemics.

Participantafx: Good German breweries include Warsteiner (sort of like the Anheuser-Busch of Germany), Kapsreiter, Spaten, Schneider and Hummel-Brau. They range from good to great, and you can find all sorts of different regional brews and seasonal brews.
I’m sure you’re familiar with the lagers and pilsners and bocks, but you might also try Kolsch (lighter and fruitier pale ale), Gose (spiced amber), Berliner Weisse (which is the city’s signature beer) and Rauchbier (smoked malt). Gose and Rauchbier are making a comeback and well worth a try (if you can find them).
Being of German extraction, I am definitely biased, but the squareheads do make great beer (along with fine automobiles, weapons and buxom blondes named Inga).
