ParticipantI don’t have solar … but when I do find the home of my dreams it’ll be one of the first major upgrades I do.
From what I’ve read, it doesn’t make economic sense to cover your entire electric bill through solar. Since your electric rates go up as you use more electricity … it follows that your rates will go down as you use less. I think it’s most cost-efficient to generate about 1/2 of what you use.
Look for a place with good southern exposure. I am π

Hey, I grew up in a house with those appliances in that color!
My parents recently (and reluctantly) replaced their washing machine of similar vintage. because the timer mainspring broke and replacement parts had been out of stock for decades. I think it was originally a wedding present. They’re both well into retirement age.
Don’t make em like they used to.

ParticipantMaybe not a “bad” photo but an intriguing one … Nice looking house in the Otay Mesa area. It comes with an “attached guest house” in FRONT, situated so that you have to walk around the guest house to get to the protected main entrance … Oh yeah, the “guest house” comes with metal window shutters and stone walls.
Seems like the sort of layout for a very security-conscious owner. You might almost call it a very “safe” house!
