This time people have more non-union options for groceries … Wal-Mart, Target, and even Whole Foods for some of you. Target doesn’t have the greatest produce section and I hate shopping at Wal-Mart with a passion, but times are rough and money is tight and I’ll probably shift some of my business that way.

Your city engineering/building department should have standard plans for concrete and CMU retaining walls. Pick up a set of those to get a better idea of costs.

I’d lean toward the Keystone-type block wall myself. Both the concrete and CMU walls will start to look shabby with time due to the effects of water (mold/algae, efflorescence, etc.) Weep holes get plugged, superficial cracks freak out potential buyers and neighbors, etc. And my geotechnical engineering profs spoke highly of Keystone-type walls for various other techical reasons. (Of course in those days a big pile of precast blocks was also handy for fighting off cave bears and marauding Neanderthals.)

I stick with credit card for any mainstream e-commerce site. I use PayPal for eBay purchases, and for the first few transactions on mom-and-pop sites.

Great story sdr 🙂 Wonder if the buyer could sue, or just represent your seller!

Some years ago I worked in IT for a company that did (among other things) online real estate listings. One day I got an e-mail from an outraged ad sales rep who said that we’d put the wrong price on a listing. I pulled up the info from the database manually and replied that everything seemed to be correct.

An hour or so later I get another all-caps e-mail from the same sales rep. It seems the customer had called again complaining that we had the wrong phone number and photo on the listing.

Again I checked the database manually … At some point a very dim light bulb went on in my head. At another, much later point, I was able to convince the ad sales rep that her customer was looking at someone else’s listing.

Needless to say the sales rep never apologized. But I’m glad I wasn’t the one who had to explain to the outraged but confused customer that she wasn’t the only one selling a condo in Mission Viejo that week.
