Participant

Do you turn to George Carlin for investment advice?
No, but he’d certainly have a lot of good things to say about our current situation if he was sill around. That’s my point — you don’t need to have an MBA or know what a mortgage backed security is to realize how fucked we are and deliver an insightful rhetort on said fuckery — the way that John Stewart did this past week.
Cronkite was no military expert, but his insight certainly changed the game.

Participantdavelj, polls have shown that Daily/Colbert viewers are actually fairly well informed about national affairs when compared to other cable news viewers. Yeah, I know… polls… but the findings are still interesting:
These are the principal findings of an in-depth Pew Research Center survey that interviewed a representative national sample of 1,502 adults between Feb.1-13, 2007. Respondents were asked to identify public figures who had recently been in the news. They also were asked questions that measured how much they knew about important and widely covered news events. Awareness of public figures varied widely.

Participantdanthedart, I reject your premise that being a comedian disqualifies you from being taken seriously. Example: George Carlin. He had brilliant shit to say on a lot of issues.
Just because someone is a comedian doesn’t disqualify them from having good insight. Sure he might be biased, but Stewart has a lot more insight that the previously mentioned “news” people.

ParticipantThat was neato. I know that some people are scared by stuff like this, but I happen to find it exciting.
I wish I could live in the future.
