I would be curious what kind of cars are the offenders. I’d say BMW drivers are the worst
Please do. I have a remodeling project I like your insurance to pay for :-). If you don’t want to inconvenient your insurance, make sure your brakes can out stop my Brembos.July 1, 2012 at 10:59 PM #747014flyerParticipantThe problem with trying to collect after an accident is always the looming possibility that the offenders don’t have much insurance, if any at all, and very little net worth.
When you look at the stats, the high percentage of low net worth people these days is really scary. Can only imagine how much worse it’s going to get in the future.

It’s likely that someone driving a X5 have sufficient insurance and a decent size net worth. I personally wouldn’t do it to someone with a 1990 Toyota Corolla, but it’s quite different with a 2012 X5 or Cayenne Turbo :-D.July 2, 2012 at 1:13 AM #747023flyerParticipantYou’re probably right AN, but accidents are so random, that you might not be able to make that choice.
Also, outward appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes people who “appear” to be wealthy, or well-insured really aren’t, and, unfortunately, in the case of an accident, you won’t know that until after the fact.
Guess that’s why we try to avoid these situations as much as possible by trying to be extra vigilent.

But at lot of time the stereotype is spot on. That 85 Toyota Tercel holding up traffice by driving right at the speed limit? 9 time out of 10 the driver has no insurance and probably doesn’t have a drivers license.

Guys driving BMW? :-D
Uh, hands down Porsche drivers, minus the Cayenne crowd.
July 2, 2012 at 6:53 PM #747120flyerParticipantOK, well I must be an exception to the rule, ’cause I drive the Porsche sometimes, but don’t tailgate or speed.
I might have been guilty of these offenses in my younger years, but, now that I’m in my 50’s I think I’ve matured–actually I’ve never tailgated. Guess I would rather get my adrenaline rush from driving a jet.

I was gonna say.. I haven’t noticed porsche folks tailgate or be responsible for road rages. They might be fast, but never seen one glued to my bumper. BMW drivers, I’ve seen do all sorts of things…And this image I saw once on the Audi forums about bimmer drivers just sums it up for me…

Yes, you might think it’s just random…But then again you have…
http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2011/12/lady-owner-of-bmw-5-series-drives-off.html
Then there’s this folks that took out an entire set of cars. BMW drivers in a TRUCK… Holy crap…
Gee, I didn’t know my truck is capable of doing that…
Then you got this idiot that thinks it’s really an offroad vehicle… Hey, it kinda floats…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T06QkgA0OwY
Then you got this idiot that drives over the parking rail…That’ll buff right out..
How the hell do you do this?
……………
Unfortunately, I think you have two tier BMW owners.
1 group is exclusively enthusiasts.
The other group is exclusively the group of idiots.I’m trying to figure out which group is larger…
This isn’t a nark on BMW’s. I think they’re great cars. but just like guns don’t kill people, people kill people…BMW’s aren’t bad…People who drive them are bad…
Meanwhile. I post a very nice old video.. One of my favorites… Saab Suite.. Since we’re talking about tailgating here… You don’t get much closer to playing a game of butt darts than in this video.

July 3, 2012 at 3:30 PM #747170flyerParticipantThat stuff is incredible, flu. Sad, but incredible.
Sorry to say that driving in CA has really become a contact sport, and all we can all try to do is to stay safe.
Happy 4th Everyone!!
July 3, 2012 at 8:26 PM #747191paramountParticipantCoast to Coast AM recap with Howard Bloom:
Road Rage Analysis
First hour guest, author Howard Bloom reacted to a recent case of road rage, and talked about the evolutionary roots behind such incidents.
In the animal kingdom there is a pecking order or dominance hierarchy within small groups, but when a new animal comes into an established group, chaos ensues and there is a new battle for dominance– this is akin to episodes of road rage where angered drivers fight for control and dominance by shooting or attacking, he suggested.
Further, people who drive larger vehicles such as SUVs are trying to appear dominant, he opined.
July 3, 2012 at 9:04 PM #747193spdrunParticipantAround San Diego, we rarely use any freeways but the I-5, and SR-56.
From what I’ve seen on those particular freeways, tailgaters, speeders, and my personal favorites–those who don’t know how to make a turn and finish it in the same lane–especially when entering or exiting a freeway ramp–seem to come in all varieties, so I can’t say I’ve noticed any particular group of offenders.
Trouble is that apart from maybe 163 via Balboa Park, your freeways are EASY to drive on. Which lends itself to idiocy. Imagine driving the following at night … 60 mph speeds, no shoulders, no exit ramp to speak of:
Then again, you have some amazing mountain roads (76, 78, 79 whatever) in east County, and I marvel how well and quickly local drivers run them!
