Where is a reputable place in buy gold?

I thinking I need to diversify my portfolio some by buying gold. I’m thinking of physical gold not paper gold (I’m thinking what good is paper gold if all I can exchange it for are worthless dollars). Am I correct in wanting physical gold?

If so, where is a reputable place I could buy physical gold. If I’m not right in wanting physical gold, why and how do I buy the paper gold?
