What recession?

Every day CNN keeps pounding into my head that there is a recession and nobody is spending money.

Apparently no one has told anyone in San Diego….

Yesterday I tried to run some errands before I leave town on Monday. I left the house at 11am. Everywhere in Misson Valley within a mile of either mall was pure gridlock and all the parking lots were full.

I was thinking to myself “don’t any of you damn people work?”. I’m on a two week forced vacation from work but what about all these other people? Yesterday wasn’t a holiday and AFAIK christmas isn’t until next thursday.

I ended up saying ‘screw it’. I hate the mall, especially this time of year. I was hoping it would be different this time….

it’s due to deflation, everything is on sale. Giving you an example, just 6 months ago I bought a Garmin 270 navigation system for $280, now that exact same unit is on sale at amazon for $129. That’s deflation for you. Today super saturday, they are saying everything is 50% off at the mall, perhaps I will go there later and see what is happening.

I agree the parking lots are full, but the lines to pay were not very long. I’ve seen worse. Not many full baskets and fewer people carrying shopping bags. I was at Costco today in the middle of the day. Parking lot full. The line to pay was short.

Ditto here. It’s shop and release. I was in Target and two different Costco’s in the last 2 days. Lot’s of traffic, but very empty looking carts and I flew through the check out stands. Old habits die hard. I guess people have to do something now that there getting forced time-off and unemployed. Kinda like the old folks doing the Mall walking. Lots of them there, but they’re not buying anything.
